Re: New gripe sheet for an old 19
Hi Jonathan, 1) Can you post some photos of your traveler setup? I think I am visualizing what your describing, however I don't ever recall anyone raising the issue you describe. 2) I suspect your tramp is an aftermarket. All of the OE tramps always had the bag as an integral part of the tramp. Ther...

Re: Any comments on hiking straps vs. ropes?
Jonathan, The beauty of the rope is that you can always get your foot under them (even wearing shoes) without using your hands. You don't want to lace them "tight", leave an inch or so of slack so you can push your foot under them. With a flat webbing hiking strap they tend to stick to the...

Re: Roller furling jib line tie off where??
Jonathan,
I know people have used CL241 or the CL 258 because of their low profile is little more pleasant to sit on.

Re: 19 tramp install pain
Jonathan, Yellow cross cut tramp is probably an original, they haven't been made that way (cross seam) since about 1984. So good chance it shrunk a bit. Since it is a wrap style tramp you could try installing by starting at the front and feeding it toward the back. The hull is a bit wider by the fro...

Re: 19 tramp install pain
Hi Jonathan, The tramps have always been designed and manufactured to be installed on the boat after the beam bolts are secure. With that being said it is possible that the tramp has shrunk over the years of not being installed. If that is the case I am not certain I have much of a solution other th...

Re: 17v19 mast length
Yes, the SC17 and Original (standard) SC19 had the same length mast.
The SC19 mast had spreaders, the SC17 does not.

Re: SC19: Self-tacking jib + furler?
Jonathan, Go to our website and look at the pictures of the ARC22, 21 & 17, all of those should be self tacking. They are not the same sails, the roller furling jib is a traditional overlapping jib where as the self tacking jib does not overlap and passes in front of the mast. Since we introduce...

Re: SC19: Self-tacking jib + furler?
Jonathan, There are two issues that prevent the roller furling on a self tacking jib setup: 1) We use a full length battens in the self tacking jib which prevents rolling. We have found this was necessary to maintain a good sail shape. 2) The tack of the jib attaches below the apex of the bridle wir...

Re: Roller furling jib line tie off where??
Tom, That is a very good point. To add on that, if your going to leave the jib furled and on the boat for extended periods of time we strongly recommend you cover it with a jib snorkel. This will protect the jib from the UV rays of the sun. Without the jib snorkel I would next expect a jib to last m...

Re: Roller furling jib line tie off where??
The roller furling cleat was installed on the starboard side of the boat along the flat section of the tramp track. The forward hole in the cleat shared forward tramp track screw. Depending on the type of cleat that was used, some people found it helpful to route the line under the forward beam and ...

The original non-skid and what we continue to use today is an AwlGrip product with a grit additive added in. If you call and talk to Tom he can fill you in on the details.

Re: SC19 boards
Jonathan, Initially the SC19 did not have diamond wires on the mast, but that only lasted for about 1 year (if that) before they were added to the SC19 as standard equipment. Very few boats were built without the diamond wires and all of those boats were upgraded to include the diamond wires. So yes...
