Re: folding 22, 27
Dan, thanks for adding your thoughts. There's no way in this lifetime or the next that I am lacing a trampoline every time I go sailing. Not happening. I will give up sailing and putter about in the garden before I do that. There are solutions and yours may be one. I'm going to hijack this thread fo...

Surf's up
Kathy and I surfed 15 miles downriver in 5-6 foot whitecaps. Massive white knuckle, sphincter pucker fun. (sorry no pics or vids just too busy) After we spent 3 hours beach combing we made the beat back to weather in saner conditions, albeit still pretty lumpy. Here's the video https://www.youtube.c...

Re: folding 22, 27
Mac, I don't know how that trailer ever got street legal, Matt is correct on the max height and I shudder to think about the bridge clearance issues. I did not quantify all of the requirements/issues/hurdles that I have on my wish list. There are many places that I sail that you cannot launch a 12 f...

Re: folding 22, 27
Okay, so I found Bill's thoughts on the matter and a great thread on folding catamarans. (the internet is a magnificent resource and seems to never forget) What I seek is a 12 foot wide boat that rigs in 40 minutes flat and floats off a trailer, nearly ready to sail. (An hour and 1/2 rigging and lau...

Re: folding 22, 27
I'll post my own answer, since Bill has already answered the question on another forum....... Hi Guys, I went down this road in 1976. I knew that to build a faster catamaran the boat had to have more sail thrust, a bigger engine. To generate more sail thrust you have to have more righting moment tha...

Bill, Are you out there? What about a folding wide beam catamaran? I sail my cut down 20 (9 foot beam) and love the boat, however, ........... here it comes............. I am beginning to lust after a longer and wider boat!!! Yes, 2 footitis is creeping into my dreams. Instead of collapsing, by slid...

Re: SC 20 Telltale placement
I cut my beams down to make a 9 foot wide boat, no regrets. Easy to manage, no assembly (other than normal mast stepping), no barber haulers needed, sails like a champ. These heavyweight oldies make great cruise boats, and still carry a good turn of speed but the reality is they will never run with ...

Re: SC 20 Telltale placement
You're welcome. you keeping this 20 or selling it? maybe we'll get together for a sail sometime. She's a great boat for sailing across the bay on.

Re: SC 20 Telltale placement
measurements from my sail. From the top of the headboard measure down 80 inches; on this horizontal line place two telltales 21.5 inches and 43.5 inches front edge of bolt rope to front edge of streamer (or center of circle sticky) From the top of the headboard measure down 146 inches; on this horiz...

Re: Race to Alaska
This isn't one of Waterlusts' best efforts. The snippets of sailing video are sparse and don't really illustrate the severity of the conditions. I liked the scene where one of the Burds is gushing over 17 kts of boat speed on an ARC 22, and says something to the effect of "these are the conditi...

Re: SC 20 Telltale placement
Missed you at the RRR, I was hoping to see you and get a first look at a top down furler. I have two sets of streamers on my stock main (33' mast) they are near or at the deepest point of draft and about 8 inches in from the leech. I will get some exact measurements this afternoon and post.

Rappahannock River Regatta
Kathy and I sailed upriver to the annual regatta at Farnham, Virginia. (mostly a Hobie 16 event) We enjoyed beam reaching conditions on our way there. On our first pass by the course it appeared that the windward mark needed resetting as it as mostly a reach. Here's a short video of the gusty condit...
