Re: Forestay Attachment Point

Great point about the ring on the back side of the adjuster when running a spinnaker. Don't forget to tape it off, too.

Yes, they do speak loudly--I learned a lot from my A cat, that's for sure. Everything happens faster. Acceleration, de-acceleration, people passing you, crashing, falling off the boat. All faster.

Re: So, How about a tutorial on Spin sailing? Bill?

Well I guess that is Bill's sail-by-the-seat-of-his-pants spinnaker sailing method! Thanks for that info! I have previously sailed an I20 with a spin and we let the main traveler out about 4-6 inches, but kept it pretty tight. We let the jib out a little more, too, to get a larger slot. You're sayin...

Re: Forestay Attachment Point

OK, sounds like you are doing it wrong and over thinking it. You should release at least one of the hayfield levers to step and de-step your mast. That takes all the pressure off the bridle/forestay adjuster plate and pin. Once you have the mast up, close the lever and your rig should be tight and r...

So, How about a tutorial on Spin sailing? Bill?

I'm installing a spinnaker on my 15 this winter and I'm looking for tips on sailing the big sail. I have crewed on an I20 with a spin and I have sailed my own Hobie 14 with a Hooter. I'm just looking for some advice. I would appreciate an overview of what to look for, what to do in certain situation...

Re: A List of SC and ARC Firsts

Yes, make it the year for the self-tacking jib! It is the best thing I have done to my boat and I love it!

Seriously, do it. Don' worry about the price, just call Tom and order the kit.

Re: 2015 regattas

Manteo and Wanchese are on the same island in the OBX, Roanoke Island. There is an old airport in Manteo near the aquarium that you might have been to. There is another airport on the other side of the island. the Gunboat event will be in Wanchese, that's the only reason I'm mentioning it. The OBX i...

Re: compression ding repair

Sorry for hijacking your post. I have removed my irrelevant responses and I hope Andy, Jason and Mac will do the same.

Re: 2015 regattas

I do apologize for the hijack, but it was good advice--just not the advice he was looking for. So, for races, Jason says he is racing this year, but we don't believe him. He has some work to do on his boat. And his house. And his car. And he has family stuff. I'm planning on: Sail the Bay, Va Beach ...

Re: Winglets on Rudders

Thanks for the headache, as usual Bill! It is nice to know why my boat acts like I know it does. Science and math. Awesome. And, yes, I really appreciate my 15. I have never come close to pitch poling except in really heavy chop when I outrun the waves and bury the bows in the back of a big wave. In...

Re: compression ding repair

Can you post a picture of your ding? It would probably be a lot easier to walk you through fixing it if we can see it. Also, it would be helpful to know if it broke the outer gel coat, if it went through the fiberglass or the hull completely. How big is it? Is there a soft area around it and if so, ...

Re: Winglets on Rudders

I get the 'Nice ride' comment on my 15 all the time! I do understand hull length, but bolting the frames directly to the hulls has a lot to do with stability and no flex. The big hulls are pretty sweet, too--my friend says I'm sailing on a fiberglass cloud. He's a hater, though. You have done a lot ...

Re: A List of SC and ARC Firsts

I guess that explains why my Boston Whaler SC20 needed the bulkheads replaced! They were a MESS. And don't get me wrong on Tom's boat building ability--I was only saying that it seems to me that his shop isn't big enough nor does he have the manpower to crank out a lot of boats. Everything I have bo...
