No More Speedmate Knotmeters

Post by Cookie Monster »

Just to let you know. You cannot buy the Speedmate II knotmeters or parts anymore. All that's left is what some of the dealers may have in stock. I hate to see that, especially since we trashed our cables when we broke our mast. I really liked those units. Apparently they weren't selling as well as they wanted, so they have discontinued manufacturing them. At least that is basically what they told me when I called the factory.

Does anybody out there have any other recommendation for a wireless knotmeter and one that doesn't require any holes in the hulls?

Speedtech II Knotmeters

Don-

I tried "Dogpile" to search for that unit and two came up on the Speedtech site. One for Surfboards and one for Kayak. Apparently they come with a one year warranty evn thought they are discontinued units. Is this what you're looking for?

Yes Thom, That is the unit. They still list them, but don't tell you that they quit making them. And as far as spare parts........forget it.

If it's only your cables, you can easily make new ones and splice them
in. Solder and put some shrink-tubing around the joint and you are
done.

Don-

Where do you mount the unit? How do you keep all that cable from snagging?

Claas,

The cables connect the docking unit for the display and a transducer at the other end. It is a sealed unit and the wires are calibrated for the specific length. I most likely will splice the wires back together and try to recalibrate the unit. After all, the speed read out is just relative to the adjustments that you make while trimming the sails. You are only looking to see what the difference is after adjustments. Up or down. Although, the speed read out used to be dead on with the GPS.

Thom,

We mounted the display on the mast and ran the wires through the tramp lacing under the bags at the front cross beam. Never had any problems with the wires getting in the way with anything while sailing.
