Supercat 17 footage from drone

Hi folks - I have a neighbor on the lake who is a professional video producer who agreed to shoot and edit some drone footage of his friend and I out sailing. It was the first time trapezing for the friend, and we had to zoom in closer to shore than I usually do, but the action footage turned out nice. He edited it down to about 2 minutes which is the nice part of having a professional around.

We thought about doing this out in the middle of the lake from a pontoon boat but it was rather windy and he had been told "don't fly the drone from a boat." The reason is that the drone, if things get all hinky, will return to "home" but it doesn't deal well with a moving, floating home.

We may try this again as we all get more experience.

Comments on my sailing and boat trim are welcome, but remember that half the time I was looking for the drone and the other half trying to get my crew to move to the right place...

Tom,

Nice sails! Who made em? There's another thread on this board asking about who makes colored dacron sails with modern shaping. Looks like you found somebody willing to do just that, high aspect, roachless, fat head!

The boat is an old one so I got a new trampoline from Supercat (Tom Haberman) and it has been excellent over 12 years now. I kept the old tramp, added some grommets and a strip in the middle to make it wider, and use it as a sun shield. Here's how that looks:

The boat is named Double Jeopardy because when I was learning to sail, and still now on windy days, my wife Peggy feels her life is in jeopardy on this double-hulled boat... You may remember that I am the guy who posted a photo of us triple-trapezing and got spanked by Bill Roberts, deservedly.

Tom Haberman strongly recommended white sails and Peggy strongly recommended colored. Guess who won? The sails were made by SloSailsAndCanvas and have worked well.

Nice video! I would like to get some video of my new to me 22 out here in Hawaii. I have a friend with a helicopter who will take some sometime. In the meantime I will have to settle for stills.

We should all keep Kevin in our thoughts and prayers as he leads that terrible life out in Hawaii. Geez......

I appreciate that Mac. It's a very tiring lifestyle I have to keep up just to own an Aquarius boat. Thought some of you might want to know what I look like. lol

That square top is a new sail, not a re cut, correct?

The drone was a Phantom - not sure of which model. The challenge is that the drone is harder to fly in windy weather, which is what you want for sailing...
