The problem I see with your bridle wires is that they are too long, Correct bridle wire length is 49.5" pin to pin. You should also check length of sidestay and the distance from the hole on the hounds to base of mast extrusion. Do not include base casting in this measurement. It sounds like so...

Since I have been involved with SC20 ( 1980) I have never heard of any problems with that part except for your particular boat. Something is not correct in the way it is rigged. Do you have some photos of how it is rigged? We would like to see them, because the problem you have is unique. We no long...

Kevin,

You are on the right track. Just do not pull it in too tight. If you can see backwind at all let it out. Try and mirror the leech shape of the jib to the mainsail shape .
If in doubt, let it out

Kevin, The barber hauler on the SC20 was used to optimize the slot between mainsail and jib. Used correctly it will allow you to trim the jib so that the leech is the optimum distance from the main when going up wind. You must be sure that you do not choke off the slot by pulling the barber hauler i...

Dave,
The standard SC20 mast completely rigged weighed 68lbs when new.
That includes diamond spreader and diamond wires.
That would not include any spinnaker rigging.

Eric,
If you are thinking to clear coat as the second stage, we only do single stage.
Easier and faster, plus much easier to repair. For what we want clear coat would be just frosting on a cake.
Good luck.

Dave,
The tall rigs all had the same profile and wall thickness. Starting in 2008 all tall rigs (38' 6") will be in carbon. Aluminum will no longer be available.

Dave,
The wall thickness on older masts was approximately 2.36 mm
The newer mast extrusions ( after 1987) has a same wall thickness but I changed the sail track profile.
The new mast has a sail track with an internal profile that is round.

Peter, The easiest way to check width of track is with a drill bit. Just find one that fits in a good portion of the track and us that as a gauge. Use the shank portion , not the twist. If you do locate a pinch you can usually force it out with some care. Get a hard wood or plastic wedge that you ca...

Changing to slug slides is not a correct modification on an SC17 mainsail. Adding slug slides will destroy the correct mast rotation and the battens will poke past the mast as it rotates. If your halyard is a wire to rope splice style it should be replaced with the current hook and ring with the low...

Bob,

The SC17 should be gel coat. There is the possobility that someone could have painted it later on.
We never painted vinyl ester laminate SC17's.

Bob,

All ARC /RC models have been built with epoxy resin laminates. If you have a gel coat SUPERCAT it was built with vinyl ester resin.

Eric, A couple of questions about the bisters. How large are they? Are they blisters in the top coat only? If you break one open are they dry inside? Where are these blisters located and are they on both boards? Also do you know if the boards were ever painted at some time? We have had a few problem...

Eric, I do not see a need to loosen the trampoljne. The material will stretch some when new, but after you retension it a couple of times it will remain solid. If you relax the lacing you will just start the cycle over again. I typically tighten my 22 tramp three times a season ( April thru October)...

Eric,

Matt gives some good advice. I would recommend that you prme the entire boat with an epoxy primer before applying your finish coats.

In reality the primer is the key to a good paint job. Poor primer equals a poor paint job no matter how good the finish coats are.
