Re: Checking for mast leaks

This is all great information. I did recall the mast being sealed as a design / safety feature but, I didnt remember about the foam plugs being added too.

Re: Checking for mast leaks

Thanks Bill, for the vacuum test proceedure. I will give it a try. I have a 15 that I have enjoyed since the day I got it new in 1987. Was the mast just sealed at that time or were there foam plugs added for boyancy too? Mac M you mentioned using 5200 to seal everything. Is this a common silicone se...

Checking for mast leaks

How can I inspect my mast to see if it is watertight? If it is not, how do you seal it? I have not tipped my boat in quite a while. I probably should for the practice.

Re: America's Cup

I would also agree about needing more practice time. There is another factor that the commentator mentioned during race 6. He described the Kiwi boat as having fuller rounder hulls, helping them to be more buoyant and be able to turn faster when the hulls are in the water. Sounds like our boats. So,...

Re: Removing hull stripe tape....

You can also try rubber cement thinner. The main ingredient is Heptane. This works well to attack the adhesive on most label products. I use it to remove boat license stickers, bumper stickers, old state park stickers, new product labels, etc. You have to really saturate the label, especially when g...

Re: Tradewinds coverage pics of ARC17

Is this issue part of the reason for developing the ARC 21? Has anyone raced the 21 in some of these Regattas? How has it performed in these or other races?

Matt,

If the mast has developed a leak, what do you recommend for sealing it back up?

Hi Tom, Thanks for the instructions. I will check it out the next time I take my mast down. By the way, I've made my repairs to the chips and scratches using the gel version of the gelcoat. I had to make two applications to some of the deeper chipped areas but, it worked great. After sanding and buf...

Sail Track

Near the top of my mast, I've found a possible pinched area in the sail track. Can someone tell me how to check for this and how to spread this pinched area without further damage.

Thanks,
Peter

Rock & Roll Regatta

On September 24-25th, CRAW, (Cat Racing Association of Wisconsin), will be hosting their annual Rock & Roll Regatta. This event will take place on Rock Lake in the town of Lake Mills, near Madison, WI. I am excited about this event because I live in Lake Mills and sail my SC 15 on Rock Lake. I h...

Boat Rack

This year I was able to find a place to put a rack on the shore of our nearby lake. Now I need to figure out how to build one. Do any of you have plans, photos, sketches or ideas for simple rack to support a cat out of the water? I have a SuperCat 15. Most racks or lifts I've seen support the boat u...

Hurricanes

It has been a tough 6 weeks for our southern friends. How is everyone doing? Bill, you must have taken a direct hit from this last one.

Thanks Bill for the tip. My boat has been set with a loose rig, so the light air rotation hasn't been a problem. But, when the wind gets extremely light or dies, everything bangs arround annoyingly when large power boat wake passes under my hulls. Setting the rig a little tighter and opening the lew...

Heavy Air Rig Tension

OK, this brings up a related question about shroud tension. I have a SuperCat 15 that I have sailed on & off since I got it new in 88. It is my understanding that the tension should be loose in light air to allow the mast to rotate more easily. But in stronger wind conditions the shrouds should ...
