Re: 83 Whaler SuperCat re-birth
Finally let my Hobie Tiger sit for a day and took the SuperCat 17 out for her maiden sail after the refit. She sailed great. Really nice manners and the square top got her to fly a hull with 3 on board and 10 mph winds with some puffs. Nice boat.

I need a tang
I need a second tang. I have the old single and there are screws from a second tang at some point. Any idea on this? Or, is it OK to have all the rigging and traps on one ring?

83 Whaler SuperCat re-birth
Just thought I would share the moment and show a picture of my re-do. I redid the transoms, repainted with emron 2 part epoxy with 2 part primer then added diamond cut EVA hydrafoam to the caps. New rigging and a squaretop Pentex sail will be ready Friday.

Re: coming about
Easier with a jib. Without you have to really think it thru. You need to make sure you have some speed and go real easy with the tiller. You have to stay steady and ease the tiller or the rudders will stall the boat. Do not take your hand off. Additionally you need to use your weight to help pitch t...

Re: transoms
I just re did the transoms on mine. THe port is BY FAR the best way to do it. THe material is very thin and we matted the outside and used 4" tape around the corners on the inside. We also replaced the metal support bars and glassed them in. The port is easy. Cut them in the top and when you cu...

Re: 83 Supercat 17 traveler
New idea for the traveler? I am considering taking the track and laying it over a 1"x .25" x 8' aluminum bar stock. Using the mounting points as a template and drilling and threading the bar stock. Then drilling the tube the same way without the threading. If I attach the ends the rest of ...

Re: SuperCat 20 price
There's one of the 20's here in Houston that sails Galveston now and again. It has been restored very niely but it is a Beast and is a job to set up. If you are looking to have a cat to set up and sail for a few days it would be nice but its a lot of work for a day sailer.

Re: SuperCat 20 price
The 20 is a tank. Not a cat to day sail too much. What is the beam?
Where is it on auction?

Re: 83 Supercat 17 traveler
I haven't looked for the track yet but the eyes sound like a good idea and they would most likely allow me to use the current tramp with some enhancements. What would you think... 4" centers for the number of eyes??

Re: 83 Supercat 17 traveler
The more I lok at this the more I come back to the idea of installing another rope track to the rear cross bar. That would have a rope track on both sides and the rear. Then I could tention from the front bar. What are your thoughts on this? Is that rear track strong enough riveted to the rear beam?...
