Re: ...... to be continued......... r.a.p.a.y.o.r.

For the last 4 years I have begun my sailing season in March, as early as March 10. (I live in the mid Atlantic region) This year ol' man winter actually descended upon us, came to stay and brought frigid temps for 3 weeks. The arctic air blast created some of the coldest weather Virginia has seen i...

............. so what makes one a sailor? when is the title earned or deserved or bestowed upon a person? clearly (if you have been reading this thread) we do not all march, in step, to the same drummer. I am not being naive or clever or facetious, I am sincerely interested in your opinions and repl...

Franklin, thanks for joining in! Great post, I will visit all of the links as time permits. Being a alzheimer's caregiver builds character, or drives one insane. Thank the almighty (insert the God of your preference here) for chain saws and catamarans. CHAIN SAWS AND CATAMARANS, that's the name of m...

Re: ...... to be continued......... r.a.p.a.y.o.r.

Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. Theodore Roosevelt I love that one, J. ........... if...

Re: ...... to be continued......... r.a.p.a.y.o.r.

Monty Python sings one of my favorite songs about how insignificant we all are....... the one about Mrs Brown and the universe....... google it if you haven't heard of it. My addiction to water and small boats keeps me connected to the planet in many ways, mostly in awe........ One of my stomping gr...

If you guessed correctly, you already know that these are mostly the random ravings of an addict that can't get a fix........... brain dumps if you will. I like to write and this board is pretty much a blank canvas that I get to slap letters on. Bruiser, evading the 'honeydew' list is always a legit...

Re: ...... to be continued......... r.a.p.a.y.o.r.

Somebody's got to do it .......... post on this forum ................. 'the silent majority' isn't that the saying? I don't consider myself part of the majority and I am certainly not staying silent, not any longer. I've had enough of the why we need to go faster all the time or race around triangl...

Re: A List of SC and ARC Firsts

Havliii, "One off test boats are expensive to build and tweek". In something as simple as beachcat, it is not necessary to build one offs to test and tweek. All SC and ARC products were designed via computer math model and performance calculated before the first boat was ever built. Each ...

Re: A List of SC and ARC Firsts

To Havliii, Just because a boat is built for the masses, It doesn't have to be poorly designed. For example, if the Getaway aft skeg was on the front of the boat up near the bow, then the boat would experience some form of sharred lift and it would tack much better and sail better to windward. The ...

Me personally, I just don't get triangle racing......... especially on catamarans! Handicap racing, in particular, never seems like much more than an exercise in cheating. Tell me that handicaps are accurate, ...... yeah sure, right ........ ranks right up there with the three greatest lies known to...

ok ............ couldn't respond to any of your replies. I was off the grid in Virginia Beach, well not off the grid as they do have internet and electricity but I was busy for three days logging, not sailing. Got some big trees down there! They grow like weeds, fast and tall. Temps approached 50 bu...

Re: compression ding repair

Matt, In the situation I illustrated I used a rather large hole and pulled the inner laminate, the core and the outer laminate all at the same time. Yes, I heated the entire area with a rather large amount of heat, applied uniformly and very slowly. It does not de-laminate in this case or rather it ...

Re: compression ding repair

This is after pulling the dent with heat, fairing and adding tape to reinforce the seam. Tons of work, not necessary for your ding.

Re: compression ding repair

Vinylester resin has a glass transition temperature (GTT) you can gently heat the skin with your new variable temp heat gun. Drill a pinhole and use a small hook to pull the softened resin and fiberglass glass back out to shape. You will now have a void where the the foam core is crushed, inject res...
