Re: RIP Bill Roberts

I was truly saddened by the news of Bill's passing. He was a great man, a true southern gentlemen and without a doubt the most intelligent man I've ever met. He was a teacher that I learned many things from. All of his accomplishments show how much he enjoyed life and made the most of it. While he w...

Re: The Next Americas Cup Boats

Hey Bill, Looking at all of the new foil configurations, both with cats and monohulls, I have a question. Now, we've gone over how to calculate lift, and thus the size of foil. My question is how is lift calculated in a curve? You see many foils that have a rounded V shape. Obviously, depending on t...

sails; square top and roach

After reading about square top sails, I was looking at the sail on a friends SC20. It has a full 40% top and the leech goes basically straight down to the foot without much roach. My latest endeavor is a SC17. I wouldn't call it a pin head sail, but it does have an interesting roach. So, aside from ...

Re: Lowest Aerodynamic Drag Foredeck/Hull Shapes

Bill,
I agree, the 27 has plenty of room for versatility and I'm sure it's a lot of fun, but I'd l lean towards it's racing side, given the opportunity

While I'm sure that slow boat "racing" is fun for some, I know why I have the one I do

All in good time

Re: Lowest Aerodynamic Drag Foredeck/Hull Shapes

I've always liked the nose on my 20, one of many reasons I picked it over a tornado or an A cat The bows on the 27/30 are so narrow and sleek it's hard to think they would dig much, but it would be an interesting situation to see. I'm sure a 27 would accommodate a group of people, but i don't know t...

Re: What year is my SC17 ? And hull repair issue

Soft and crunchy doesn't sound good. Is there an access port close enough to get in behind and put some backing on the patch?

BTW
I'm looking for a SC17 if it or another becomes available

Re: Looking for help on a telescoping trailer

It may not be shiny and new, and it's not aluminum, but it works just fine.
When it telescopes, it rolls out adequately and the rollers work like they need to.
Let someone else spend the money on a fancy trlr, I'll keep my "junk" !

Re: Is this a Bill Roberts or Boston Whaler

If you are talking about SuperCat 15, 17, 19 or 20?
Bill Roberts is the original designer, Boston Whaler bought SuperCat in the early 80's, it eventually became Aquarius Sail. Tom Haberman is the man to talk to.

I would never refer to mine as a Boston Whaler

Re: Looking for help on a telescoping trailer

Dan, Maybe I can help? I'm not the best photographer but there's a wheel on each piece of square tubing that telescopes with about 1/8" +/- clearance. There's 4 independent slides, because it telescopes from both sides of the trlr. The tube attached to the trlr has a wheel on the bottom, just a...

the golfball effect

I was looking at a golf ball the other day, wondering about all those dimples. I'd love to see the machine that makes them. Then I started thinking about the use of the dimples. It has something to do with creating turbulence to reduce drag. I guess it works, you don't see any smooth golf balls? So ...

Re: Dagger boards versus shared lift

Bill, That clears up my misconception about water line and boat speed. I assume the location of the two points of shared lift is simply to balance the center of effort? I was checking out an article on PlayStation. What you have just explained, seems to be evident in its rework. They added 20' to th...
