Re: Rig heights

I think I've been talked out of the project in the current form. I'll keep searching for some 19 or 20 hulls.

I picked up a Vanguard 15 to hot rod for the kids, so that will scratch the itch while looking.

Raising the sail

When my sail gets over half way up the mast it becomes extremely tough to get to the top. I have to have my son feed the bolt rope into the track and I wrap the halyard around a 1” pvc pipe for grip to finish the job. Yes, it’s a 40 year old mast and sail but does anyone have any pointers or tricks?...

Re: Rig heights

Merry Christmas Matt. Yeah, I saw the same, closet thing I’ve found is like a tornado, but they are 29’ish. It’s odd. I’m going to fit the SC mast base to it and fab the standing rigging and see what happens. It’ll work until I find or splice a proper mast. A SC20 popped up close to me with some hul...

Re: Rig heights

So the mast I bought isn’t a supercat mast and might be a tornado rig. It’s 32’8” and tapered at the top with a rotating hinge to step. It will still work as a test rig for now.

Re: Rig heights

Thanks Matt. I'll post some pics of the rig after I pick it up tomorrow. I think 33' is the right height and will give me plenty of options on sails. I knew the 'save your time and money' comment was coming fast. And you and others might be right. But, I've got an excess of SC17 hulls and believe I ...

Rig heights

I just bought what I think is a SC20 tall rig, the guy I bought it from said it's from a Tornado, but I didn't think the Tornado rig was this tall. It is 38'6" and has a single spreader and the same extrusion profile as a SC. Came with a sail also that looks like its from a Tornado. I am about ...

Re: Rudder Serial Numbers

Thanks. I bought the boat above from Merrit Island/Cocoa.

Any intel on the Pattison sail? I bought it with the boat below from Delray, which I'm told was originally from upstate NY.

Re: Rudder Serial Numbers

Here's the sail that came with the boat, I've never sailed it, I've been using the sail from my other boat. https://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=137874&g2_serialNumber=4 https://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&...

Re: Rudder Serial Numbers

Yes, it's likely the rudders were replaced. The boat had BW stickers on it when I bought it. The hulls do not have hull seams where they were joined, like they were sanded down. My uncle said he had never seen a 17 made by Bill R or BW that didn't have the seam. https://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2...

Re: Rudder Serial Numbers

That's exciting, along I thought I had two early eights boats. I'll post more pictures. Is there anything I should look for to help you identify?

Rudder Serial Numbers

I'm curious about what, if anything, these number mean on my SC17 rudders. Appears to be: ARC22G04243-1. The boat is of unknown year and builder due to not having a VIN on either hull. Any ideas? https://www.thebeachcats.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=137853&g2_ser...

Re: stepping the SC17 Mast discussions

Doug, I'm Wayne Cornelius's nephew. I can show the gin pole I built for my 17. It's a process but it works.

And if you decide to sell yours, please let me know.
