Re: Mug Race

The last column was the half way "finish line". They use that time in the event wind dies. Bill and Eric had us beat on corrected time at that point. Since we completed the race it is just interesting info.

It was a fun day.

Re: Mug Race

We had a good wind year. Most of the boats could have finished if they wanted. It got slow at the end of the day and many just opted to go to dinner. We had a fantastic tacking duel between the RC30 and the RC27. At the start the RC30 and 27 both got off the line together on port tack. The RC30 with...

Re: Why We Beach Cat

Love that green paint job on your boat. Take note of the Around the Island Race this year. They are planning on 2 days. First day to Pensacola and the second day back to Ft Walton. This make this more of a nice weekend regatta and the race more manageable.

Re: Mug Race

Had a great time at the Mug Race. Congratulations to Eric and Bill for coming in first, which means winning overall. Early in the race we had them buried way behind us on the 27, however they really know how to generate wind with that machine. So it took them oh maybe 5 to 10 minutes to come back an...

Re: ...... to be continued......... r.a.p.a.y.o.r.

OK I will bite. First having a well designed boat, means that whether I am racing or just having fun, when the wind unexpectedly picks up to survival level, I am sailing a boat that can handle the conditions. One that will not pitch pole at the first opportunity and one that will not drop ...

Re: 2015 regattas

Rich, The NC Outer Banks is a great place to sail. The thermal breeze comes in every sunny day about noon and it is steady 12 knots onshore out of the east. I sailed there once at an old seaplane port. There was plenty of room for parking etc and a ramp so wide 10 boats could launch at the same tim...

Re: Beach Cat Limit! What is it???

Thanks for the information Bill. My partner and I have owned an RC27 for 10 years now and it feels like we are just beginning to learn how to push it. At first the boat seemed very scary just because of the sheer size when compared to what we had been sailing. However the boat has been very managibl...

Re: What are the benefits of a self tacking jib?

Bill I want to hear more on this as it could be some thing I attempt on one of my SC's. And are you saying a self tacking jib is a good or bad thing ??!?! The self tacking jib makes life easier and better. The key to successfully tacking a catamaran is proper sail trim going into and out of a tack....

Re: Breaking a mast

Was your spin too big or was the hound for the spin located too high on the mast? The SC mast is so heavy an extrusion I would think it could withstand the stress of a spinnaker. Yes you should be fine with the spinnaker. Where we made our mistake was not recognizing how important the main sail is ...

whalerman wrote:Has anyone ever broken a mast while sailing? I don't mean pitchpoling on the beach or hitting a tree, I mean snapped it while sailing either main & jib or with a spinnaker?

Yes, broke one while flying spinnaker. What is the question?

Thanks,

That is a great job. We would love to see you race that in The Mug Race in May. Very impressive work, looks like it will be a really fun boat to sail.

Re: Foil Boats, Which Way From Here?

Bill, The next question is, how much of an advantage is a foil in the long run? A fixed foil has its disadvantages as you have pointed out. With the aileron design, the aileron works like a governor to keep the lift under control when the speed gets to high. So theoretically, if it lifts out at 13....
