They are the 12 footers. I didn't know the 20 came with 10 foot beams! When I first spoke to the seller, he said the boat was 14 feet wide. One of the reasons I am thinking about the solid beams is that I'll probably end up getting a new trampoline. I have no experience with the wire traveler, so th...

SC20 beams

I buy a lot of old boats and part them out, so I went on a typical call to look at a 'Hobie 20 that needed sails and a tramp'. I thought I would just get the boat and part it out since there have been so many Hobie 20 getting crunched recently. Turns out it was a SC20 Tall rig complete with extra sa...

Tom, I guess I need to order some new pin kits from you--I replaced mine with Stainless bolts and replaced the rudder pins (into the gudgeons) with 1/2" cotter pins!! I heard that the SC rudder castings started to bind or get tight over time. I have 2 sets and one is tight, while the other is l...

You know, Bill, I remember a long time ago my mother telling me not to jump my skateboard over the makeshift ramp I made in my driveway. Did I listen to Her?? NOoooooo. My wrist still hurts to this day.

OK, so maybe tripple trapping the rig is not a good idea...bummer.

Bill, For grins and giggles, I was considering tripple-trapezing my SC19. I wouln't have 3 big guys on the wire, but maybe a total of about 500lbs. I would think that having a third guy on the others shoulders would add a lot more weight than just having him standing on the deck. I mean, 500lbs is l...

Thanks, Dave. I still have the boat upside down in the back yard so I can finish the bottom job. I thought I would have it done by Labor day, but it has come and gone. Where did you get the dolphin striker, or did you build it? Any pictures? I have a Hooter rig on a H14 and don't need a ds, but I th...

Thanks!

I thought SC19s came out in the early '80s, so I thought the seller was a little off--I just didn't want to bring it up when I was buying it. The '19S70' was throwing me, though.

SC 19 VIN

The VIN on the stern of my boat is: ERY00711M84C

The person I got it from said it was a 1970 boat because "19S70" is stamped above the VIN on one of the hulls.

What does that mean? I'm thinking it is an '84 boat--The hulls have a red foam core.

Installation question,

Matt, I don't know if I spoke to you or Tom the other night, but the directions I got were to install the hook 1 inch below the head and to line up the center of the hook with the halyard as it comes out of the pulley in the head. Now, that hook is a serious piece of steel! It came with 5 nuts/bolts...

Spin pole attachment

One more question-- I installed a spin/hooter pole on my Hobie 14 by drilling through the front beam and running a long carriage bolt through. I tightened it with a nylock nut and then put a big washer on the rod. I drilled a hole in the bast of the spin pole and I can now just slide it over the par...

SC19 Vs SC19 XL

I'm looking into tramps and other parts for my SC19 and I keep seeing something about an XL option. What is the difference??

Are instructions available for installing the hook and ring main halyard system? My wire is toast and I like the hook system that I have seen on Prindles and some Hobies. Where do you get the kit??

Busted!

Bill, you got me--I was planning on installing a Hooter, but I also wanted to be able to run a spinnaker in the future (when I get one). I had my 18-2 set up so that I could run either sail, but never got around to using them! I absolutely agree on using a head sail upwind. I have one on my Hobie 14...
