I know you have checked this but have you inspected the groove to see if its narrowed in one or two spots. This happend on my first SC20 back in 1980. It made raising and lowering a real chore.

Matt - I recall 1979 on July 4th the rep for FMS came through Dallas during the Borg/McEnroe match. After three phone calls to me I left the Tv and went sailing on Hull #1 I believe. The next summer I drove to Jupiter and paid $9000 for my first 1980 FMS 20 that had been stickered as a Boston Whaler...

I have owned two 1980 FMS boats and both had deck plates. Also the backing plate on #57 was the 1/2" x 2" plate that came off in my hand. When installing the hardware the matching plate was imbedded inot the hull.

Hello Tom- When I pulled them off[ about 2 1/2years ago] the "backing plates were about 2" long by 1/2" wide by 1/16" thick. I can send a pic. They didn't look to me like a professional backing plate but thats what was there. What I will do is cut some 1/8" HDMW plastic to s...

1980 FMS 20 side stay backing plates

I finally got my 20 back yesterday. I was told the sidestay backing plates were missing. It was in someone else's hand for 2yr 3 months. I was wondering if these plates were straight pieces with holes drilled or copies of the outside pieces that fit all the bolts pattern in one piece??? Also I have ...

Just squirt in some superglue and go sailing... Once sailing/crewing a one off C cat in the bay we hit a large fish??? The collision was so violent it threw the skipper forward. He hit the stay and nearly severed his ear off. I wrapped his head with a shirt and took him to the local er. They sewed i...

Been promoted/no Tampa. I didn't ask for the upgrade but the $$$ are worth it. I recall 30 years ago [1974] on a close reach with two other Tornados...all three cartwheeled in SF Bay. No videos then but I still remember the water being cold...pkus the two broken fingers( ;<{=== Is there an RTI this ...

My first 1980 SC20 had delrin tubes inserted into the daggers that were offset to go into an indentation in the hull. If the "wrong dagger" was inserted the board would stop when the tube hit the hull because the hull indentation was on the inside only but not the outside of the box. Or wa...

Pin Head vs Square top

What is the performance/rating difference between the two main sail designs on an FMS/SC20? I'm ordering sails this year and am wondering which turns out better considering the differences. Also has anyone looked at Dimension Polyant D4. There is a Pentex version now. Last question: Will the ARC22 s...

Hello Sam- I think you are the COWARD in this thread! Awhile back I saw another one of your self absorbed opinions on the Catsailor site stating that "ARC22 owners were trying to buy a win". When I asked you which ARC22 owners you had spoken too??? you disappered just like the COWARD you a...

Don Caldwell has an 1980 SC20 with telescoping beams but he knocked out the delrin shims and inserted some green pvc pipe and drilled the holes. This makes the beams extremely stiff but takes away the telescoping feature. He uses a tilt trailer presently.

Har418 trigger cleat is used on mainsheet systems [usually above 8:1] to release the line without moving the sheet out of the cleat. Some of the fboat guys use them including me. Basically you pull the sheet to either side and the claws release and allow you to ease a small amount without taking the...
