Re: Rudder Plan Form

Bill
We have a spare set (2) of SC17 rudders that have the 'extra' lock-down 'notch' which I assume (we have never used them) provides 'some' steerage (vs all the way up) in shallow water/surf.
Might you share some history of this rudder design and its proper function?
Thanks!

Re: Scaled down for the masses?

Dan I imagine your SC15 'jumps' off the trailer and onto the beach as soon as your parking lights go off. SC15 video posted on forum is Fantastic! You would be absolutely amazed at how quickly the ARC21 is also stepped and out on the water! Other than addition of of rigging the gin-pole, we are out ...

Re: Scaled down for the masses?

Thanks Havliii :) Since this thread has gone completely off the reservation (my fault), I ah reckon it is OK to shoot one more arrow into Custer (Cherokee heritage is in my genes) by offering these 'opinions' to those who may listen: What is wrong with the world? "I am" http://www.youtube....

Re: SC17 Sailing Upwind

Whenever sea state permits, I have my crew trap out 'in-front' of the forward crossbar to point my SC17 more sharply unwind. Same for my ARC21. As long as leeward bow does not completely bury (more correctly: boat does not stop suddenly with stern rising up so rudders can be 'fully' inspected), ball...

Re: Scaled down for the masses?

Bill I am not sure we 'did Not want' wing powered cats, rather I suspect the masses simply were never 'Educated' as to the value of their function. I have been a scuba instructor since '86, and traveled the world as a professional u/w photographer (magazines, textbooks, etc). Beginning in the mid-90...

Re: Scaled down for the masses?

In reading Bill's thorough description of the support required to 'wing' Wild Turkey so it could actually depart terra-firma for an afternoon of 'fun' on the water, I am reminded of NASA's colossally ill-conceived shuttle program that did nothing to advance space exploration since 1969. Sexy? Absolu...

Re: How would you build an 8 foot wide SC22??

The 'big' difference in fabricating a SC22 with 8.5ft beams as compared to the ARC21 is: The ARC-21 utilizes Bill Roberts "Shared Lift" concept in conjunction with low drag, high lift daggerboard and rudder designs that not only improve the ARC-21's windward capabilities but also produce a...

Re: Supercat 'firehose' on steroids!!!

I captured image with a housed Nikon D2X camera & fisheye lens while bobbing in the water and acting as the 'buoy'. Instructed my buddy Todd to sail his SC17 'danger-close'. Reckon I need a 'helmet'!

Re: Lite Air SC 17 Day

Mac, I have been burned twice by fiberglass resin SC's (older than '86) so NO thanks. I simply push the 'old' ladies way too hard  Not sure if Tom has already sold their ARC 'benchmark' 17, but he sent me photos earlier this year and it looks Mint Mint! :D Somebody on this forum must surely be ...

Re: Lite Air SC 17 Day

Mac, if you find a 'good condition' (1987 or older) SC17 during your extraordinary ability to 'find' Supercats, please send one down here to Panama. No worries if you and wife test "dive" it first

Excellent Mac! Glad to see you got 'some' use out of the Sails.
Looking forward to seeing your 'form' on SC19XL!
