Another Righting Thread!
Tom, Bill, and Matt, I was out racing the SC20 this weekend and we happened to bury the bows and my crew flew completely around the front of the boat and landed on the other side of the tramp without a scratch. Then he pulled the boat over. I used Bill's righting technique that he has explained on t...

Boom-less Main Question
Tom, Matt, or Bill, I have the Kevlar mainsail Aquarius had made and it is very flat. I sometimes race in light winds and am wondering if I changed out the aluminum bottom "batten" for a piece of PVC or smaller diameter aluminum would that allow the sail to bend and give a better sail shap...

Re: Dolphin striker wire tension
Actually you might be able to jack up the dolphin striker. You'd have to loosen up the stays too. It would be easier to do with the mast down because of the corrosion problems you will probably encounter.

Re: Downhaul and board positions
Tom told me once that the SC20 mast does not have a prebend, at least the older ones. The only time I leave my boards up going upwind is when I might hit something. Otherwise I usually keep them about 6" sticking up unless I am racing. I have hit something hard before in deep water, might have ...

Re: Installing foot straps?
You cane see what I did on mine if you review the pictures from me rebuilding my boat. I already had some holes cut in the bottom to get inside and then I used plastic blocks that I could screw into. I would not use toggle bolts as I think the point load would be too high. I believe the area you wou...

Re: New Zealand AC72, What I Saw Today
Hi Bill, I don't think he was saying you designed recip engines, I think he was just talking about the leaps of technology and how newer generations view them. I personally think the foil sailing and the speeds reached are exciting. I think today's youth are more interested in extreme sports and thi...

Re: Sloppy tiller crossbar connection
If I understand you correctly by turning the plug 90 degrees the bolt will go through the holes that the up/down lines go through. I made a new plug for mine but I would bet that Tom could supply new ones.

Re: Elliptical top and the AC72
Thanks Andy, that makes sense. I don't think it would help me since I currently have a very flat jib with battens.
I really like knowing why we do things rather than doing things because it I've been told it should be done.

Re: Rudder Plan Form
Bill .... He also said that "a longer wing is a better thing -- and if you get that length 'for free' (by using better wingtips), that is a really good thing." That said in the next image tip A would be the best way to end any foil. So then why did you not employ this on the rudders and d...

Re: Elliptical top and the AC72
Can you explain why the boat would go faster with the jib furled?
