New Sails - Help, Tom!!??

It is getting time to get new sails and we all have been looking. I can't get a good used one for my 15 and I'm having a HECKUVA time finding one for my 20. We also have a 'newbie' convert to a SC17 from a Hobie 16 and he is looking for sails, too. So, Tom, I want to call you up and order a new squa...

Re: folding 22, 27

OK, I have to weigh in on this, and keep Bill honest. I bought Bill's modified 20 a few years back and it had solid beams. It was a PITA to trailer it and it took more than an hour to set up. He's close, maybe 2 hours, but still, it took two guys and power tools to put it together. He did have some ...

Re: SC 20 Telltale placement

I am planning on sailing it, but I'm getting a little frustrated with the boat. If someone walked up and made a great offer, I would let it go. I do need a new roof.. It is more of the size of it and moving it around. I'm used to manhandling my 15 so this is a big change. I had a 20 like 10 years ag...

Re: SC 20 Telltale placement

Thanks for taking the time to measure--I really appreciate it!

Uh...I don't think that word means what you think it does

So, I was in Mexico last week and a cab driver asked me how I was and I responded, "Ugh, muy caliente!" He about barfed from choking and my friend about jumped out of her skin trying to explain to everyone. Apparently, we ignorant Americans have been taught that 'Caliente' means 'hot'. It ...

Re: Directive & ARC 2101

I painted my A cat that color and it looked awesome! I put black stripes on the side like the old Laser or phaser stripes on the 70's Cudas.

Everyone called the color "Over Early!"

Re: Supercat 15 Top Down Furling set up

Thanks, I won't get the boat in the water until sometime in May. I don't think I'll fly the kite until the RRR and I won't race with it until Duck Cup and our Labor Day event. One thing to add--I had to plan the system so that it could be removed and set up quickly. We get to leave our boats on the ...

Re: Supercat 15 Top Down Furling set up

Nah, Macguyver would have set up the boat with a paperclip, some gum and some tin foil. I got everything for the system from Tom except the furler and the blocks--and the plastic piece, of course. I had to build the pole, too. It was an old Mystere 5.5 pole that I got off of a friend's Prindle 19MX....

Re: Supercat 15 Top Down Furling set up

Turning and control blocks: I think I need to rethink the turn blocks. I have them on a carabiner attached to the small shackle that attached the shroud extender line to the sidestay tang. I haven't had Tom's blessing on this yet. I also think I need to lengthen the string to move the block closer t...

Re: Supercat 15 Top Down Furling set up

Now, for the cool part. I needed to pass the endless furling line though the trampoline and to a turning block near the rear beam. I wanted to keep tension on the line and I wanted to anchor it so it didn't flop all over the place. I added a grommet to the rear lacing srtip to keep everything lined ...

Re: Supercat 15 Top Down Furling set up

This is how I set up the pole and furling drum. I have the self tacking jib kit with the flat traveler across the front of the beam, so I had to go under the beam and through a hole in the tramp. I got a Selden brand double fairlead that opens up so you can route the furling lines through it. That i...

Supercat 15 Top Down Furling set up

I finally got the sail up, but it was gusty, so I couldn't get great pics of the sail shape. I did get some pics of my furler set up

Re: Upgraded SC-15 Questions

Yeah, Tom dangled that 15 in front of me a little while ago--that was beyond mean, borderline cruel. He is absolutely right that the price is good for all the modifications, I have more than that in my boat and it keeps adding up. I'm assuming the dual downhaul is for the main. If you have two pivot...

Re: Forestay Attachment Point

Another thing on stepping your mast with the trapeze wires--Bill taught me a cool trick. He tied a line to the trapeze ring that was about 3 feet long. Yours might need to be longer depending on your boat, but you should get a good idea of the needed length after the next few paragraphs. He wrapped ...
