Boy, it sure has been quiet here over the last month or so!
I saw this cat on the beach here in Australia while on vacation. It's a cute play on words but I'm not sure this would fly in a lot of our households! I guess it would be a hoot if this boat was owned by a woman, but I somehow doubt it.

Screws instead of pop rivets
And, I'm not sure about all the models, but my 17 has a boomless rig that I just love.

Re: Lowest Aerodynamic Drag Foredeck/Hull Shapes
Hi Bill. I am on vacation and got bored (go figure) and decided to check in on this forum. I saw the post, gave it a day of thought, and got up this morning to post a reply and you beat me to it! To my everlasting credit, I had postulated a round hull shape to be the most aerodynamic but less help i...

Re: More on leeway and sail trim (tom's video)
Hi folks - glad to be of help! None of us is perfect and the more we learn from each other the better we get. In fact, just two weeks ago, after sailing cats for 40 years, and tipping over a LOT, I learned a new technique from Bill about hopping on to the bottom hull after the boat hits the point of...

Re: Supercat 17 footage from drone
The boat is an old one so I got a new trampoline from Supercat (Tom Haberman) and it has been excellent over 12 years now. I kept the old tramp, added some grommets and a strip in the middle to make it wider, and use it as a sun shield. Here's how that looks: Blanche Boats.JPG The boat is named Doub...

Supercat 17 footage from drone
Hi folks - I have a neighbor on the lake who is a professional video producer who agreed to shoot and edit some drone footage of his friend and I out sailing. It was the first time trapezing for the friend, and we had to zoom in closer to shore than I usually do, but the action footage turned out ni...

Re: Slightly obscure SC17 Righting Question
Hi there, and welcome to the club! I, too, went from a Hobie 16 to a Supercat 17 and have loved it. One, you will flip or pitch pole the SC 17 far less than the Hobie. Two, since the SC 17 has a higher volume mast, you will not turtle. (See Bill, someone has been reading your posts!) Anyway, just la...

Re: A Common Problem with the Latest State of the Art Boats
I started with Hobie Cats in 1978 and then graduated to SuperCats in the mid 80s. So that is 25+ years of experience in just about everything, smart and dumb, you can do on a catamaran. It is amazing how much we all have learned and don't even know that we know it - good habits and tactics just beco...

Re: •••••••• CRUISING THE SUPERCAT 20 •••••••••
I'll try to attach a copy of the text from the Multi-hulls article. It would have been great to have a hand-held GPS on the trip but it was 1990 and I don't think they were around yet. I also just looked back at my journal and I'm surprised how young, inexperienced and dumb I was. I have since saile...

Re: •••••••• CRUISING THE SUPERCAT 20 •••••••••
Hi there - looks like a fun project. In 1990 I took a month off and sailed from Chicago to Mackinaw Island and then back down to Door County. I day sailed and slept on the boat on the beach at night. It was a fun trip and I even got an article published in Multihulls Magazine. Here are a couple phot...

Re: Just Wanted to Say Hello
Welcome! I made the trip here via my first sailboat, a Hobie 14 in 1978, then a Hobie 16 in 1981, then a SuperCat 17 in 1985. I bought the 14 having never even sailed...since then I have sailed all the Great Lakes, won a catamaran regatta, suffered humiliating defeats at cat regattas, and sailed the...

Popularity is partly being good enough, not necessarily the best. The rest is timing.
They were surfers. They caught the right wave at the right time.

Re: What Class Boat Is This???
Airplane wings, and sails, I guess, tend to have their thickest part maybe 1/3 back from the front. Fish have evolved this way, too. One of the best biographies I've read "One Good Run", the story of Bert Munro, aka "The World's Fastest Indian", told the story of how when he had ...
