Interesting repair

I just picked up a SC 19 that had almost a perfectly round hole on the side near the stern. It looked like someone hit it with a hammer. I used a hole saw that was about a half inch larger in diameter than the hole and cut out the upper layer of glass/gel and the foam, leaving the inner glass as a s...

Re: Building on "The very best racer" thread...

You know, It would be very interesting to see a price list or a catalog. 'Kit' pricing for things like the upgrades mentioned earlier would be extremely cool, too. And pictures of the parts would be very helpful. But, I'm sure Tom and Matt don't have the time for that. The process now (I'm sure) is ...

Re: Tubular battens question

Great, I hope the sail maker includes the measurements. I would hate to have to figure out a replacement batten by measuring against the broken one.

Re: 2016 SteepleChase Race

That does not sound like a fun race, especially in the Ocean. We will not run a race if the forecast is over 20mph. We have weather beacons at different parts of the bay so we can tell what the wind is doing all over the place. We look for sustained winds over 20, gusting to 25 is OK, but not desira...

Re: Building on "The very best racer" thread...

OK, OK, I meant USED parts. try finding a supercat mast!! Sounds like I have the 17 equivalent to your friend's 19 collection. I know there are boats all over the place, it is a matter of finding them. I have pulled boats out of swamps and storage units and back yards for 15 years. Supercats are pre...

Re: Building on "The very best racer" thread...

I wouldn't say that I'm giving advice, I don't think I'm in a position to offer any, I'm just pointing out that nobody knows that you can actually buy a new Supercat, especially a 15 or 20. Good used Supercats are hard to find and parts are kind of getting hard to find as well. Hobie and Performance...

Re: Building on "The very best racer" thread...

I agree on the quality of the boats, but no one knows about them! There are still people plunking down good money to buy crappy Hobies and they could be buying a much better boat, instead!

Building on "The very best racer" thread...

Bill's talk about bringing back the SC15 got me thinking--Why can't Aquarius build new boats in different configurations? For instance, a Supercat 15, 17 and 20 and then an ARC 15, 17 and 20? It seems like it would be easier to sell base models and then let the owners upgrade. The ARC 15 would have ...

Re: Tubular battens question

Bill, I think you misunderstood. I have a set of the old white tubular battens and was planning on using them, but Tom mentioned that there are new manufacturing techniques applied to all the new battens. I said that I was looking to buy a new sail (from Tom's sail maker) and then you mentioned that...

Re: Tubular battens question

Why did I KNOW you were going to say that, Bill?? Can't catch a break on cost, here, can I?

So, when you say 'matched' set, you don't mean that the battens have been cut at different places on the luff (small) end? Or, are they all the same (matched) battens just cut at the leech end?

Re: Tubular battens question

I haven't had much experience with the tubular ones, I just never had any until recently. I used the fiberfoam battens in my 15 sail and thought they were pretty good. Now that I have put a set in a sail and actually inspected them, I think I am sold on them. I will probably get a new sail this wint...

Re: The Very Best Racer, 'Cruiser, Day Sailor' Ever Built

yay!! Go Supercat 15!! If I hadn't already built pretty much what an "ARC 15" would be (under the close direction of Tom) I would be first in line to get one if they started making them. However, from what I've experienced, 15 feet isn't the magic number, it is 16 feet. The popular boats a...
