Re: A Common Problem with the Latest State of the Art Boats
Thanks for the background on the PN. Everyone loves a soft PN, as long as it is theirs. Nobody loves a soft PN when it belongs to the other guy. You keep beating everyone and they will just lower yours again, NOW THAT is the Proverbial Catch 22.

Re: A Common Problem with the Latest State of the Art Boats
30 feet against 20 hardly seems like a fair fight. Why don't we use the corrected times? Handicaps suck, I should know, I posted that in a thread somewhere on this board. One of the Marstom 20's won, on corrected time, of course. But how else do we compare 30 feet of waterline to 20? Foilers are her...

Re: A Common Problem with the Latest State of the Art Boats
Weather is weather it's not perfect, fair, equal or impartial, it just is. What boat we choose to sail, (in whatever weather) is ours to choose, nothing else. If one boat is happens to be dialed in, so be it. However 'the sun don't shine on the same dog's butt every day' That's an old euphemisism fo...

Re: Race to Alaska
Looks like the Freeburd will finish sometime tomorrow unless they press on tonight. They got the spinny out for a few minutes today and hit 13 kts boat speed, last posted pic they were actually rowing. The winning team Elsie Piddock passed by them on their way south sailing back down the course head...

Re: Race to Alaska
Latest pic I could find of the Burds. I'm guessing here but I would say that they needed more time on the boat. Things just seem a little a'kilter, can't figure the set-up, the 22 should be flying a hull and ripping a big wake if they need a reef in the main. My 2 cents, I ain't doing the suffering....

Edited by author: Freeburd is moving steadily towards Ketchikan. Three boats are battling for 4th place, Kohara, Uncruise and Freeburd.

Re: Race to Alaska
Last post really, then I'm leaving. FreeBurd is now headed into Port McNeill, equipment or rest or retiring?

Re: Race to Alaska
The hobie 20 officially retired. The Burds have turned towards shore, might be a short day for them, possibly a bad shift. I'll miss the finish tomorrow morn, am leaving to go sailing myself.

Re: Race to Alaska
Bill, thanks for the back story on the sails. A little more time on an ARC might have helped the Burds immensely. In big air I always douse the jib and use the full main, this makes her go upwind like a mothereffer. Since this is all upwind and up current (at least so far) seems they would be a lot ...

Re: Race to Alaska
Kohara is on the move, Freeburd is sleeping in this morning or repairing, Discovery moving, Soggy Beavers moving, Team Mau the Nacra 570 appears to be done no movement for almost 60 hours. Many others taking in the scenery, can't say I blame them.
Thanks Matt for the boat info.

Re: A Common Problem with the Latest State of the Art Boats
Dead on, 5 man crews, no trapeeze, wing racks, no foils, the Marstrom 32 league already exists in Europe. The racing is close quarters, fast and lots of lead changes, still a tough sell to an American audience.

Re: Race to Alaska
Tom, Bill or Matt,
What's the back story on the boat Team Freeburd? Did Aquarius do all the mods? Who built the racks? etc, etc? Whose sails are they using? Was the boat rigged by the previous owner? Can they run down the Warrior 29, Kohara? Are all the jibs on the 22's full batten hank on?
