Re: Rudder Plan Form
What about the Supermarine Spitfire with the elliptical tips? They were very successful but more complicated to manufacture than a square tip wing. I think that is why you find most gliders have a square tip because it is cheaper. I imagine the dorsal fin on a shark or other fish acts somewhat like ...

Re: Square top and self tacking jib?
OK, I just found another picture and I remember how he did it. He had the curved track that was attached to a metal bar that extended the width of the beam from inside of the hulls. The piece was attached to the beam by large hose clamps and could be fairly easily removed for trailering.

Re: Square top and self tacking jib?
Tom recommends the curved track for the SC-20, at least he did for me. Dave Farmer built a small curved track for his telescoping SC-20 and I used to have more pictures of it but I do have one. It might have had to been taken apart to put it on the trailer. You can contact him and he might still hav...

I think because of high drag if it hits the water.

Did any of you guys get the email "Document"? I haven't opened it. Doesn't sound like Tom to send something like that out.

Re: Mast tang for SC15
I used some Amsteel for my trap lines and was able to reduce the number of shackles on the tang. It made it a little less complicated and also lighter. If I come across a picture I will post it.

Re: Rudder Plan Form
Hi Bill, I figured you must have read Bethwaite's book in the past. His book taught me more about how a sailboat works than any other source I have come across. It even gave me some good theory on airplane wings too. I think you would find his book very good reading, not that you have anything else ...

Re: Rudder Plan Form
It's been a long time since I read High Performance Sailing by Braithewaite but if I remember correctly he said that using the rounded tip sails or foils gave a longer effective length. Having read that though, I wondered why the trend had gone to square top sails. The square tips do look better and...

Re: 19 for sale in my area
Personally it looks like a good deal to me. When you consider how much work it takes to get a boat in good shape, that is a small price. To me sails are easy to replace but getting a basic boat in good shape is the most important thing. I am assuming he did a nice job. What would a new comparable bo...

You can use synthetic lines for the trap lines and it might make some more room.

Re: Boats and Blondes
That's nice. Wish I had some video of my SC20 out bombing around Kaneohe Bay last weekend with 20+knot winds. I had a couple of people on their first cat ride and they were trapping out with the hull flying. Couldn't knock the smile of their faces if I had punched them in the face. I have to make a ...

Pretty exciting!
Are you doing any racing these days? The last I heard, your son had broken the mast going under that bridge.

Sorry to hear it broke. Did the hulls show any sign of delamination prior to it breaking?
