Re: going rogue..........
changing topics and hijacking my own thread....... What's the latest from your workshop, Bill? Are you working on sail designs? What about a soft wing sail, 2 sided, that could hoist in a more normal fashion and not need a crane? Any thoughts that this idea will ever come to fruition? I know there a...

Re: going rogue..........
Thanks Bill! It's always a treat to hear from you.
I won't make my case or list any reasons for loving my tri, this IS a catamaran forum after all. There are many drummers in this world beating out many different rhythms. I'm dancing to a different beat these days, that's all.

Re: going rogue..........
Well, that cost me at least a half hour of my life! It was a great idea and nicely executed. But Once on YouTube, I watched videos on how to burn stumps for a while and then ended up watching videos on how to make rings from gold coins. Next time, please post stills... lmao now that's funny...... h...

going rogue..........
Well I went and did it. Took a perfectly good cat and chop shopped it into a somewhat perfectly good trimaran. Here's a pic of the results and a video link of the boat in action. I took this step to create a more comfortable camper boat and to get my wife back out on the water. I have to confess sit...

Dan, I love you man, we are different as different can be, but share a common bond in our love of Supercats. PARTS AIN'T HARD TO FIND!!! CALL TOM and ANY part you want can be had. If you meant USED PARTS then okay somewhat harder. Buddy Jeff just bought an entire SC19 parts boat for 1k and now has a...

Re: Building on "The very best racer" thread...
The list of BANKRUPT boat builders probably exceeds that of Santa's, I think offering Tom advice is a fool's errand. The oldest adage in the restaurant biz is 'expand and go broke.' Getting bigger is expensive and fraught with risk. The only way to help Aquarius survive is to go sail your ARC or Sup...

Nice day on the Potomac
We were returning to Point Lookout from Piney Point. The flat sea state is pretty unusual on the Potomac, made for a really smooth ride until the wind died completely.

Re: Sailing, Vacations and Physics
Any pics? Just a few. I was soloing most days. This is one of the deserted beaches on the eastern shore. IMG_20160908_150902963.jpg Here's one returning to the dock. The derelict ships in the background are Virginia's idea of an artificial reef and breakwater. There's like 8 of them strung nose to ...

Sailing, Vacations and Physics
Just returned from seven days of wandering the southern Chesapeake Bay. Didn't sail all seven days, spent time on various pursuits. I read Carlo Rovelli's short book "Seven Brief Lessons on Physics." Actually I read it twice. Magnificent book about us. I highly recommend.

latest tropical storm brought in some gonzo conditions. this video is 54 seconds of a 14 mile 'one tack' leg downwind. the entire run was this fast and faster. (turn off the sound if mild profanity offends your senses) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7QmBx04mOk&feature=youtu.be https://www.yout...

Re: Generic Sails
Bruiser, The holes in the plate do make a difference on changing the leech/foot tension ratio which in turn moves the draft location of the jib.

Re: Square Top vs Pin Head
I'll say it like this. A pointed tip sail on a 30 ft mast will produce the same thrust as a square top sail on a 27ft mast. This is a 10% loss in span effectiveness for the pointed tip sail. Is there no benefit to the top 3 feet? Seems like a win/win if we just cut off the top of all our pin head s...

Re: Square Top vs Pin Head
Here's the link to one of Daniel Forster's jpegs, some of you may have already seen this in other publications. Mr Forster took several angles of this same event, this is not the best but the only one I could find a link for. The aerial view is quite dramatic and the fog illustrates the vortex drag....

Re: Square Top vs Pin Head
"Certainly more technical explanations could be offered for the advantages presented by increased area at the head of a mainsail. Those more familiar with the science underlying these designs would tell you that a broader head tends to stabilize the air flow across that section of the sail by d...
