Winglets on Rudders
OK, Bill, Why aren't we installing winglets on our rudders like the A cats? I understand a lot of the A cat success has to do with curved boards and pitch but the Moths were using them a long time ago before they were foiling. I realize the boat would be a mother to launch from the beach and would p...

Re: A List of SC and ARC Firsts
I don't know why Supercats/ARCs aren't more popular. I just don't get it. The ARC17 seems to be the ultimate beach cat that about anyone could sail. The 20s and larger are a bit intimidating, but they are pretty impressive. I suppose Hobie has the marketing side of the equation down. I am a huge fan...

Re: What are the benefits of a self tacking jib?
I installed one on my 15 and I can't say enough good about it! It makes single handing a charm, I can practically roll tack the boat and fly through tacks! The up and downside: I can point MUCH higher since it is a skinny sail. I have been gradually raking my mast forward and it doesn't seem to effe...

Installing tramp on SC20??
So I have a SC20 with telescoping beams. The tramp is the netting style with wrap around on the front and rear beams. There is also a side lacing strip on the starboard side. What is the proper procedure to get the thing tight? Can you compress the boat and still keep the tramp on--or partially on? ...

Re: Duck Cup and the SC20
Mac couldn't make it, but I did on the 15. The weather was great and sailing was...well, it had it's moments. Saturday was a distance race through the narrows in the sound down to the lighthouse and back. I managed to hit every patch of grass on the way, but so did everyone else. The wind was suppos...

Re: Bridle Foils??
The wrinkles on Mac's boat are a little worse than on mine, and most of mine are on the outside of the hulls. Mac's red boat failed at the bulkheads and could have broken in half if the boat was sailing. Luckily for the guys who owned the boat, they noticed it on the beach.

Re: Bridle Foils??
Bill, I think you're missing my point--I think we all understand the value of the rounded bows and the buoyancy the Supercats have, BUT, a lot of us are getting older boats that more than likely have weakened hulls. I just picked up an older 20 and I already have to replace the bow tangs. Like any o...

Re: Bridle Foils??
I was thinking more about the foils just for older 20s--there is a lot of pressure pushing in on the sides and pulling up. It seems like a good idea for tired hulls. I think the Hobie 17 style spreader or Nacra NA spreader would be a good idea because they sit about 6 inches off the deck. Even in th...

Bridle Foils??
Why don't we see more bridle foils on Supercats--especially the wide ones? Does the factory have plans for them? I attached a pic of Bill at the Steeple Chase, thinking his spinnaker pole was a bridle foil. It looks like it from the angle. I can't delete the attachment. I guess it is another opportu...

Re: How NOT to finish a race
It was more of the I20 guy that was cheering for my DQ--he is VERY vocal about Supercats having unfair numbers. I get a kick out of it because he is validating that they are better built boats. That day, I happened to have a pretty good race until the end, but there were other environmental factors....

Re: How NOT to finish a race
A few years ago, I did this race on my SC 15 and my trapeze adjuster line broke which caused me to go into the water and the boat to flip over. This was like 50 yards from the finish line after a 4+hour race. I was the first high Portsmouth boat to (attempt to) finish and I could hear all the guys w...

Re: The square top mainsail
Ugh. I just got another Bill Headache. So, for another related question (or more like observation): I'm finding that down wind, I go faster with my traveler out to about the footstraps (or less) and the main sheeted in about medium? tight. I remember on the Hobie 16s, everyone would put the traveler...

How NOT to finish a race
So, Supercats were represented at the rescheduled Duck Cup in Duck, NC this weekend. The course was a distance race from N'or Banks Sailing south to the bridge then West to a mark on the land side of the sound and back to N'or Banks. Our Hero on a Supercat 15 SL 1-up took the cup on corrected time. ...

Re: The square top mainsail
And, while we are at it, why don't we have square top JIBs?? It seems like the leech of the main opens and changes the shape of the wing and the air that passes over it. With a pin-top jib, it won't adjust the flow of the air to match the new shape of the main. If you had a square top jib, it would ...
