Re: SC 20 restore part 2
Got one of the lids back on yesterday. Not my prettiest work, but that's what sanding and fairing are for! Next up is stripe removal and a small amount (hopefully) of body work. These repairs have sparked a big upgrade for the old boat. As a result I'll soon have some stuff for sale from the boat in...

Re: SC 20 restore part 2
This is the second time I've had to do this repair on a 20. Those plywood bulkheads rot after all these years. Tom sells a nice composite replacement and caps to replace the ones you have to cut out. I'll be replacing the caps in the next week and will post photos. Gene. I removed the cover plates w...

SC 20 restore part 2
I sold my first 20 and regretted it, so a while later I finally got another one. I was only able to sail it a handful of times before it was time to bring it home. I knew I was going to have to tension the dolphin striker cable, but ended up finding one of the bow tangs had started coming loose. Thi...

Re: into the mist...........
If it's a multiple day thing I'd be bring the 20. It's about to go down for a redo, just found my bridal tangs are loose so it's time for new bulkheads.

Go there often? It's not too terribly far from me. Might could meet up there with one of my SC 's sometime.

Re: Dolphin striker wire tension
Did you do the beams yourself? I had been looking at changing at least the front beam over to a solid one from the factory and going self tacking, but things kinda fell thought the cracks.

Re: Dolphin striker wire tension
I finally got the mast down and brought her home for the winter. I took some time today to look at tightening the striker cable. I took the acorn nut off and pulled the end caps, there doesn't seem t be the corrosion I thought I'd see. I'm assuming what I need to do tighten the cable is to thread th...

Re: Upper wind limit for S20
The mast would fit, you'd need new rigging though. The 17 and 19 share a mast.

Re: What Class Boat Is This???
Judging by the file name, I'll guess hobie 16! I'll also guess that the thinner end is the bow. The flat side I'm assuming is what is used for lateral resistance to make it go upwind?

Re: Checking for mast leaks
The mast would have come from the factory wth plugs at the top and bottom. My 1989 boat still has the plugs intact, but I needed to seal the hound.

Re: Checking for mast leaks
I ordered a set of plugs from Tom, only like $14. You remove the cap at the top of the mast and the base at the bottom. On my 20 I had nothing at the top or bottom so I would have been screwed. I put some 5200 on the walls of the mast liberally and then put the foam plug in. I used a broom handle to...

Re: Hull pads?
I put some stuff called Hydroturf, Hydroturf.com, on the tops of a SC20 a while back. It was quote comfortable and seemed pretty durable. Many of the newer F18's and F16's are coming with the stuff standard now. If you ever had to remove the stuff for repairs it probably wouldn't be any fun! Look th...

Re: The square top mainsail
A friend had Randy Smyth build a set of sails for his I20 and it had a square topped jib. Not sure of the difference it made, ill have to ask.
