Re: mainsail solution

The SC 17 uses a batten as a boom. There should not be an external boom on your rig.

Re: SC 17 - Just some questions

Hi Matt, Thanks for your reply. So If I am understanding you correctly the mast on a 17 should be allowed to rotate freely to the fullest extent of rotation. Interesting. I have two jam cleats on my tramp. a plastic one for the roller furler and a metal one. I wonder what the metal one is used for? ...

SC 17 - Just some questions

I'm having a great time with my 17 but as I live in an area that is not populated with many, make that any, Super Cats other than the two I own, and am relatively new to sailing, I have some questions. 1) The self tacking jib seems quite a bit smaller than the old style, wouldn't this make the boat ...

Remove Tramp for the winter

Western New York winters are nasty! So I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to take the tramp off now and store it in the garage. Any opinions out there?

The 2010 CUBA RUN CULTURAL EXCHANGE EVENT Key West to Cuba

Gentlemen, I came across this post a few days ago and decided on the spot that this is a MUST DO event. Neve mind that I have only been sailing cats for 2 years and that my sailing has been exclusively on an old Supercat 17. I really need to do this race. That being said, I need a new (used) boat. I...

Bolt Removal

If you can loosen the bolts just a bit put some Liquid Wrench penetrating oil on the threads then let it sit for a day or two. You should be able to tighten the bolts back up slightly, then work them out a bit more and put on more penetrating oil. Be patient, it may take a couple of days for you to ...

mast up storage in high winds

I store my cat by hanging it over the beach from the crossbars. Tonight the winds are gusting to 60 mph and the mast is oscillating from wind changes. How to people prevent this from happening with mast up storage?

As much as I can

This has not been a particularly great year on Lake Erie for sailing, either too much rain or too much wind, and I am a newbie so I'm probably a bit more conservative than I need to be. If I can pull it off e days a week in July and August that is really nice. Next year I hope to start early June. W...

Chewed up transom on SC17

Both transoms have some issues, but the right one keeps getting worse, the more I look at it! I think I need to replace the whole thing, but I don't want o t lose the locations for the backing plates. It also appears that the transom is an integral part of the hull half. So you cannot just replace t...

Polyester or Epoxy?

Thanks to posts on this forum and conversations with Tom and Matt my Supercat 17 resurrection is progressing. I am assuming that older Supercats were built using polyester resin. If this is the case, should I be using polyester resin for repairs or epoxy? Is one easier to use? There seems to be some...

Bought the SC 17

:) I recently bought a 17 and it appears that most of the parts are there. There are some problems though. I need a parts list and a boat diagram. Do you have these available? The metal plate in the transoms that the pintles screw into are missing at the bottom of the hulls. Do you sell replacements...

Previous SC17

The previous one became a bigger horror story every time I talked to the guy. Bent mast, hole in hull- but only from rubbing against the trailer, The tramp needs work, etc.

Thanks Matt, These boats do not come up for sail very often, but I have had many people tell me that they are great boats for Lake Erie. I am looking forward to moving up to something more sophisticated than my Sol Cat 15. Not that it is a terrible boat, but it is a bit small for the waves on Lake E...

Found another SC 17

I have found yet another Super Cat 17 for sale. The hull number is 17P.656. The boat is all there and appears to be in good shape. Can you tell me how old it is based on the hull number? What problem areas should I look for on the boat. It has been used in both fresh and salt water, but has not been...

SC 17 purchase

Hi Guys, I have the opportunity to purchase an SC17 ...with a few issues. The biggest problem is a bent mast. Quite honestly I have never seen a bent mast before, but low and behold this mas does have a slight bend to the left. Is it possible to straighten a mast? The hull has a marinetex repair on ...
