Bob, As long is the jib is trimmed properly before the tack, no adjustment is necessary. The reference to the spreader tip / jib location was purely for trimming purposes and applies to the 21 when sailing upwind. Here is something to remember about the self-tacking jib. Trim the jib for the heading...

Eric, The 21 really isn't "weight sensitive". We raced the 21 this past summer and over 50% of the time my daughter sailed with us. That's an extra 13% or 50 lbs of crew weight on the boat! We didn't really notice the boat tacking any different, other then the fact that there was an extra ...

Hi Eric, After having sailed the 21 for most of this summer I am quite surprised your having troubles with tacking. :? Here is our standard routine for tacking: 1) Head the boat up to the highest heading (without stalling the jib) in preparation for the tack, Ie: don't try to start the tack while on...

Port-Starboard? Crunch....

Another good reason to avoid a collision. Both boats were on port when the Hobie 20 decided to tack unexpectidly. The 22 tried to head down but didn't quite miss the transom as you can see. The only damage suffered by the 22 is the superficial paint damage shown, and the Hobie 20, well you can see t...

Don't use too much pressure.

Hi guys, Careful when using a vacuum cleaner to pressurize the hull. A plain old shop vac can generate several PSI which is more then enough to cause internal hull damage in any boat hull. One trick to avoid over pressurizing is to put a "T" in your pressure hose coming from the vacuum cle...

Dan,

The "ERY" stands for Ericson Yachts who was the builder of your boat. the "84" at the end is the year.

The 19S70 is actually 19', Starboard Hull, and probably hull number 70

Take a look in the "Annoucements" forum or on the Aquarius web site. There is a calender of events for 2004 that includes the Race week before Round Island. If you have additional questions you should contact Glen Marsh, Class Assoc. President.

John, I noticed that you posted on Catsailor.com, as a clarification to my previous message and the following post by Jake Kohl on Catsailor.com I just wanted to do a followup: The above advice applies only if you have a straight spreader that is perpendicular to the mast. The reverse should be true...

Battens: From my persepective that would be the problem

Don, You need the battens... Without the battens the leech of the jib is "Hooked" back into the mainsail & spreaders which isn't helping the performance of the boat. In a jib with battens the leech will be roughly 4-6" away from the spreader tip when the mast has typical rotation ...

John, I am assuming that your are talking about diamond wire tension? The SuperCat 19 rig was designed to be adjusted depending on wind conditions. In light winds (no trapeezing) the wires were adjusted by hand so they were taunt. As the wind conditions picked up the wires were loosened so the mast ...

Re: Installation question,

Matt, I don't know if I spoke to you or Tom the other night, but the directions I got were to install the hook 1 inch below the head and to line up the center of the hook with the halyard as it comes out of the pulley in the head. Now, that hook is a serious piece of steel! It came with 5 nuts/bolt...

Re-Rigging SC20 w/ Self Tacking Jib

Matthew, I too would suggest that you call Tom at Aquarius Sail (651-462-SAIL) as he will be able to better answer your questions over the phone and get you back on the water quickly. I have a few questions about your boat that might help Tom in answering some of your problems. 1) All of the SuperCa...

Well ARC-22 #22834 had a nice evening for a sail. This was taken around 7:30 this evening on White Bear Lake.
