Re: What Class Boat Is This???
The drawings show up as .pdf files now and are easy to view I recall the flat outboard sides from the Hobie 14 / 16 series and also the Prindle 16s had flat outboard sides. What they told us at the time was that the flat side helped reduced side slippage and that the curved inside produced lift to w...

Best wax / finish for Hulls
Hi Folks I have a 80s era gel-coat SC 17. This spring I noticed the hulls were pretty oxidized and kind of gunked up so I flipped the boat upside down in the lake (without the mast) and took some 800 grit wet sand paper and carefully and lightly sanded/cleaned the hulls up, sanding lengthwise down t...

Re: Installing foot straps?
Wow, I have done some risky things (no wait, dumb, as pointed out by Bill - Triple trapezing pyramid style for one) but I would never stick even my booted foot into the top of the rudder frame. That's too scary for me. I sail in a lot of high gusty winds and remember when guys would put foot loops o...

Re: SC17 solo mast stepping
Ditto on the disclaimer about doing this at your own risk. I get my boat on the beach, mast-less, and find a way to get it pointed downhill - the bows lower than the stern. I hook up the shrouds and loosen the two side levers. Make sure the shrouds will not catch on the rear crossbars or rudder arms...

Summer Sailing
In 2010, I took six months off and sailed across the Atlantic and back (monohull - sorry). Three of us went over, one flew home (to go back to work) and then two of us sailed the boat from Lisbon back to Florida. Our blog http://remediosoceanvoyage.blogspot.com/ During our time in Europe, we met Ted...

Crossing the Atlantic (on a monohull...)
Hi folks I have owned a Supercat 17 since the late 80s and have had tons of fun including sailing it from Chicago to Macinac and down into Door County in July of 1990. My story from that trip made it to Multihulls Magazine but never to the web so I can't link to it. I also am the guy who posted the ...
