Re: ...... to be continued......... r.a.p.a.y.o.r.

I started racing simply because there were no other cats on my lake, hardly any mono's either. When I started (about 5 years ago) I had no previous sailing experience and was learning from the internet and trial and error. The local group around here, EMSA, scooped me up and taught me what I know no...

Re: 2015 regattas

I'm hearing June 6-7 for Duck Cup. it's looking like EMSA is making it an official points race this year not that that has anything to do with what we're talking here. There's a good chance I'm bring the 17 here as well. Spring Fever is most likely dead. Nigel is considering something small Easter W...

2015 regattas

To build on Dan's Hijack about racing Supercats on the repair thread  , where will those of you who race go this year? It would be pretty cool to get some of these boats together! We will most likely go to Sail the Bay in Virginia Beach on our 17 in May (5/16&17?) There's usually a SC or 2 ...

Re: What are the benefits of a self tacking jib?

Bill,

The factory also offers a curved track for the self tacking set up, I have this on my 20. So the straight track is better than the curved Aquarius offers?

I have the straight track on my 17 (pictured above).

Re: Racing SC20's

I didn't do that great, had some spinnaker issues that kept me from using the kite. The 20's boat speed up wind was right there with the F18/16's but I wasn't able to point as high as they could. I'm really just getting started tuning the boat so there are lots to be gained in its performance. Kevin...

Re: Spin pole question

Well it looked well run from an online spectators standpoint last year. I enjoyed following it and look forward to this years. Great job!

I'd love to line my 20 up for the dash but am positive my wife wouldn't be game!

Keep us posted on your overhaul.

Re: Spin pole question

I was told 14' long 2.5" o.d. Wall is .090".

I couldn't source that wall thickness locally so went with .125 (1/8") little thicker but doesn't seem to make a difference. I think John who is on here uses a longer pole from our conversations.

SC 17 video

Short video of the 17. First sail with the self tacking jib. I'm not used to tacking without boards so I edited those out!

Re: What are the benefits of a self tacking jib?

I have a self tacking jib on my SC 20 and the F16 we race, tacking is faster. It really comes into play when you run a spinnaker. Going downwind you would have to jibe the spin sail AND the jib. With the self tacking set up you don't have to worry about the jib, it takes care of itself. I just put a...

Re: Racing SC20's

Raced today in 10-12 mph winds. The 20 did well up wind and could hang with the F18/16's. I couldn't point as high as they could, but our boat speed was pretty close. My spinnaker set up just didn't work so I didn't use it, we got killed on the downwind legs.

Re: Breaking a mast

I never have but have a fear of losing a mast. I'm always looking for parts boats with good masts to buy for spares. I also carry insurance for that reason.

Racing SC20's

Anyone have much experience racing a 20 on a buoy course? I'm hosting a race here next weekend and plan to race the 20 I just rebuilt against mostly F18's, f16's, and A Cats. Curious what to expect.
