SC 20 video

Took the 20 out Sunday for some sailing, winds were around 10-12, with some bigger gusts. This was the first good sail with since I redid the boat, so I wasn't pushing it. My speedpuck recorded at top speed for the day of 16.2 mph. Need to add grommets to the jib to tie off to the pelican striker, t...

Supercat Times

I bought a 17 the other day and when it arrived it had a folder of paperwork. In the paperwork were 3 newsletters called "Supercat Times". Great newsletters from the late 80's about Supercat Sailing. There was even a 20% off coupon for orders, unfortunately it expired in 1988 :( http://i11...

Re: Just Wanted to Say Hello

Welcome to the club! I think you made a wide choice too! I've had a NACRA 500 and an older SC17 and liked them both. If I were to buy new I would go with the same choice you did. If you're buying a brand new boat I would think covers would be a no brainer, a tramp cover at a minimum. I keep both of ...

Re: Bridle Foils??

I don't have the issues on the current 20.

I've got those red hulls in a barn, not sure what will become of them. I didn't buy the boat with intentions of fixing, just wanted the tall rig and Kevlar sails :D

Re: Bridle Foils??

No it happened when they were on the water the day before in some big wind. They did not notice it until they were about to go back out the next day. I sent the picture to Tom a good while back asking his thoughts and whether it might be repairable. He said it looked like a 'classic compression crac...

Re: SC 20 restore part 2

http://hydroturf.com/products/Closeouts_and_Specials/Sheets_of_Turf I bought the stuff in the close out section, the B grade stuff. I couldn't find anything wrong with it and have ordered 5 sheets all together over a 2 year period. The exact pattern I used is the molded diamond 'B' stock part numbe...

Re: SC 20 restore part 2

Took her out with the tall rig briefly for a shakedown sail. still taking it easy, making sure everything is as it's supposed to be. I didn't have my bigger purchase blocks due to an issue so had to go with 7:1, couldn't sheet in near where I needed to be. That tall rig is quite intimidating, lots of...

Re: SC 20 restore part 2

The finally came in, but I haven't been able to get them out on the water yet. Next weekend is the plan. Here they are, along with a picture of the finished boat. Tom is building a forward triangle tramp for it, that'll be the last thing I plan to do to it. I'm pleased wi how everything turned out. ...

Re: Bridle Foils??

Here's a picture of the wrinkles Dan is talking about, I assume. This is from the red one I redid a couple years ago and just bought back. It had a failure at this same spot on the other hull (pictured). The white one that I just finished has the same look at the bulkheads under the front beams. htt...

Re: Bridle Foils??

That would be a nice way to go if my hulls ever busted, especially with the amount of money I've put in redoing my 20!

Re: Spin for an older SC17

I usually start with calling the factory! I decided to not try and 'reinvent the wheel' on the SC20 project I just finished. Made things go much easier.

If you do decide to try and do it yourself, I have many spinnaker system parts for sale. Check your p.m.'s, I'll send you the details.
