Matthew's Questions
Hi Matthew, What you have here is somebody's" home cooking". What you are describing never came from the factory. I suggest you get in touch with Tom Haberman at the factory and put the boat back stock, standard. Sail it like it came from the factory originally. It worked very well and bac...

"The waterline worked for us coming back".
Hi Don, I have heard this before too. The beach cat sailing public doesn't understand. The correct equation for high fineness ratio and lightly loaded hulls is: Vmax = a constant x sq rt WL. The constant varies between 4 and 5 depending on hull fineness ratio. But the most important thing to notice ...

RC30 RACING IN AND AROUND BARBADOS
News From Barbados: Shortly after the Race Around Barbados, Jan 2004, Bizzy Williams, owner of RC30 Tiami Silver Bullett, sold the boat to Robert Foley. Robert, a monohull sailor from Barbados, was very impressed with the speed of the RC 30 demonstrated in the Around Barbados Race which the RC30 won...

Broken Bolt
Hi Eric, As I remember the bolt is 3/8ths inch in diameter. It goes into a 2 inch square X 1/2inch thick piece of 6061T6 aluminum. You can try the easy out thing. I that doesn't work, drill the broken bolt out and install a helicoil kit. Or go a size larger in bolt diameter and new threads. These bo...

Spinnaker or Gennaker on a SC 19
Dan, One other point of advice: You will have much more success with a spinnaker than a gennaker. To make a gennaker work well, the luff should be kept very tight and straight as possible. A sagging luff makes the gennaker just pull sideways. Your SC 19 can only support the luff, luff tension, of th...

SC19 Spinnaker
Hi Dan, I have tested the spinnaker at many elevations above the main mast hounds. From the go fast point of view, higher with a bigger spinnaker is better. But there is a problem. If you go past 33% of the mast height above the main hounds, the top of the mast begins to bend off too much and things...

Tybee 500 pictures and what can we learn?
The only pictures available from the race, Tybee 500, were of boats sailing out through the surf and returning in through the surf. A few boats had problems. WHY??? Here's what I saw of boats sailing "out" through the surf: (1) When sailing out through surf in shallow water, rudders up, th...

1994 SC17
Hi Bob, I have I have seen the boat you are talking about. The boat has changed hands several times. Some of the owners have been brand new to sailing. They did not know how to put the boat together and got advice from the beach cat sailors around them. These other brand boat owners had not seen and...

SC19 Parts
Hi Dan,
The factory is always the best place to go for parts, new or used. As I remember the SC19 and SC20 boards and rudders are the same so your span of selection is much broader than originally thought.
Good luck,
Bill

SC20 Spin Set UP
Dave, Go to the factory. Aquarius has everything you need. Also the self tacking jib is a nice "go fast improvement" and can be incorporated as part of the spin pole system. With the Pelican stricker tube, the jib tack can be set at deck level and this maximizes the jib luff length. The se...

Hull Repair
Hi Bruno, Is this a hairline crack in the gelcoat or is the gelcoat broken away and you can see the white fibers of the laminate? If it is hairline cracks in the gelcoat, these can be fixed using additional gelcoat only. But, first you must open these hairline cracks up so that new gelcoat can be fo...
