Re: Bolt rope front beam on an older SC 17

The nuts are easy. I will tape a breaker bar to a ratchet with the nut in the socket to reach down in the tube.

Bolt rope front beam on an older SC 17

My boat is just about ready to put in the water. The new Aquarius Sail tramp looks great! But, the track on the front beam is riveted on and I fear that the rivets will pull out under the stress of a stretched tramp with weight on it. Somehow I don't think I am the only person out here with a rivete...

Re: Boltrope Main Beam & self tacking setup

Here in Western New York we are Super Cat / ARC challenged. I know of one other SC in the Buffalo Area and one in Rochester. Believe it or not, the first SC 17 I bought I got from Florida, nice sails and an ok tramp and trailer, but a poor patch job was done on both hulls... Well, they looked good o...

Re: Boltrope Main Beam & self tacking setup

If you use a straight track don't you lose the self tacking feature? I thought the idea was that with a curved track the jib would set itself properly when you tacked.

Re: Boltrope Main Beam & self tacking setup

As I see it you would need the following. A new main beam with boltrope groove. A new jib that is cut with a shorter foot so it will pass in front of the mast. A curved section of traveler that mounts in front of the main beam (this is quite an assembly) A traveler car Some blocks. Here is a drawing...

Re: Boltrope Main Beam & self tacking setup

Now that I have seen a self tending jib setup up close I realize that it is quite a proposition and would not be an inexpensive upgrade. I like the idea of buying a new ARC 17 better... :)

Re: Supercat 15 Refurb

My lake is still mostly ice covered and the forecast calls for 6" of snow tonight. I should have a boat down in Florida..

Re: Supercat 15 Refurb

Thanks Dan.

So you changed your mind on the hooter then and you are going with a spin? I put loops of rope around the beams at the corners of the tramps for handholds. If you use good rope you can suspend the cat on them if necessary.

Will you have to reinforce the beam to put on the spin?

Re: Supercat 15 Refurb

Thanks for the quick reply. I look forward to seeing the pics. Why did you go to a 15 from a SC20? I'm just curious. I have a 17 and a 15 at the moment. The 17 is great for taking up to 4 people out or racing with 2. The 15 needs a new tramp and mainsail, but I am tempted to keep it as I think it ma...

Re: Supercat 15 Refurb

Hi Dan,

Can you describe the self tacking jib setup a little bit better? I need a new tramp on my 17 and I am thinking of going with a 4 boltrope tramp to accommodate the self tacking system, but I don't know where to start.

Thanks

Boltrope Main Beam & self tacking setup

Is there a kit available to upgrade an 80's vintage SC17 to use a self-tacking jib? I would also like to use a spin or a hooter eventually.

Hooter on a 17

Has anyone put a hooter on a 17? It would seem much easier to rig/sail than a spinnaker.

Anyone care to comment?

Crew Weight

What is the maximum crew weight limit for a SC 15 or SC 17?

Re: mainsail solution

You have an interesting problem here as the 19 sail is huge compared to the 17, not only taller, but wider as well. The foot of your sail probably projects back beyond the edge of the tramp over a foot. When you attach the main sheet to the sail and haul in on it it will naturally cause the sail to ...
