How would you build an 8 foot wide SC22??
This one is for Bill: Let's hypothetically suppose that someone were to have a set of 22 hulls and nothing else--how would you build a boat that was easily trailerable (no telescoping beams, no solid 12 foot beams)? The idea would be to use available parts from other supercats and to not spend 10 gr...

Re: SC15 out of the weeds back on the water
Jason has a single jib block mounted in the middle of his trampoline, kinda like a 20/22. I think it is a funky set up, but he thinks is is best, of course. I have a pair of swivel blocks mounted on the front beam, so they are out of the way and very convenient. I run the ends of the jib sheet to th...

Re: SC15 out of the weeds back on the water
Looks great! You should check out some of the races in Virginia next year--there is a nice family one near Tappahannock in the Spring and a few down in Virginia Beach all Summer. The one in Tappahannock is a fun, low key event that I usually go to with my 15. It is a great feeling beating up on Hobi...

Re: Mast Rake
I think I may adjust he rig a little bit, but it really does work for me. I was faster than most Hobie 16s last year!
I don't have weather helm--never had it. The boat has always sailed very well. I do notice that when trapping upwind, I am very far forward.

Mast Rake
I know this has been discussed before, but I'm still curious. I seem to recall the magic number was 5-6 degrees. I have a self tacking jib on my 15 and my rake is at about 11 degrees. The boat is fast and I really like the way it handles. I don't know how I got there, but it just works. I measured t...

Re: Speed...want more speed
Seriously. You have compensation issues. The 15 isn't about length--it's all about girth. I consistently beat Hobie 16s with my SC15--Not REALLY, really good A fleeters more like good, experienced racers (but I am always at the front of the pack with them all.) I have a self-tacking jib th...

Re: Converting Supercat mast
Dude. I asked. It was like $6500!!
I got a really nice 33' mast from a F18HT that is about the same shape as the Supercat mast, but it is almost as heavy as my 15 aluminum mast!!

Re: SC15 Battens
I used the fiberglass/foam battens that are white glass with black dense foam and I am very happy with them. They are less than half the weight of the Hobie ones and give you a great shape. I can get a BUNCH of them if you haven't found battens, yet. It's a good thing you got white sails--now we don...

Converting Supercat mast
I have a slight bow to my SC 15 mast and I can get my hands on a SC19 mast to convert. Since the 19 mast has the spreaders, I would like to keep them and add them to the 15 formula, so my question is: What measurements would the factory suggest using as far as where to mount the tangs for the diamon...

Re: SC 19 Trailer
The hulls are tough enough that you should be able to use cradles. Using a beam mounted system is kind of a pain. For my Supercat, I have Hobie 20 rear cradles that are on axles. The front cradles are the Murrays 'V' shaped ones. It is a very nice fit and the boat not only travels well, but it goes ...

Re: Boltrope Main Beam & self tacking setup
Yes and no. With the standard jib set up, you can back-wind it by leaving it cleated longer if you have to, but you can't back wind the self-tacker without going to the front and holding it. It is very convenient because you have one less string to pull before you get out on the wire. Really, I foun...

Re: Boltrope Main Beam & self tacking setup
I installed a self-tacking jib kit on my 15. I suggest getting the entire kit from Aquarius because they have the right 'recipe' and you won't have to reinvent the wheel, so to say. I went with a straight track to save a little money and because Bill Roberts was pretty much adamant about how well th...

Re: SuperCat 15 with a new home
I was talking about the double stack rig for your trailer! we need to see that with the 15 and 14 on it!
Did you install the SC righting system with the Hayfield levers?? If not, how hard was it to right the boat when you flipped it??

Re: SuperCat 15 with a new home
Wow, maybe you can work on putting MORE tell-tale windows on your main?! Look for the Hobie 20 cradles: http://www.murrays.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=MS&Product_Code=07-4801&Category_Code= I made mine with a tube and used the brackets for rollers. I think mine ...
