Well I won't say it was easy but I did finally get it figured out. We laid the mast down in the shop and worked on it for probably over an hour trying all sort of different things. In the end it came down to flipping the shackle around and using the proper knot. Here is a pic of the good setup: http...

Well after a lot of tinkering and trial and error I finally found a method that works. Hopefully I will have time to post some pics tonight so you guys can see what finally worked for me.

Thanks. I really like the way you connect the halyard to the ring, I could see that working much better than tied on top. It would allow the hook to move a little more freely and it also pushes the hook in slightly. I'm hoping to try this out tonight and see how it looks and take some pictures. I'll...

I put the knot to the outside. I will pull the mast and sail into my shop and see how it looks aligned the other way (and take a picture)

Do you have a picture of what the new halyard ring looks like? I'm curious to see the difference. If it doesn't have the ring, how does it hook?

Thanks,
Eric

Here you can see the ring that I am using. So can someone tell me if I have the correct hardware? Any ideas what I am doing wrong? If I rotate the hook further out to catch the ring then it deflects the halyard significantly making raising the sail very hard. If I slide it back far enough to clear t...

Here you can see that the mast hook doesn't stick out far enough to catch the ring.

Here you can see that the mast hooks is now more or less aligned correctly.

Does anyone have pics of their masthead hook and the ring used to connect to the sail? I messed with this last year and all I did was make it impossible to hook the sail. Now that the new season is approaching I need to fix this again.

That is how mine is done, it has the following parts going from the inside of the beam: nut->end cap->nut -> cap nut (acorn nut) I can tighten the 2 nuts up against the end cap and lock it in place. However in practice the 2 nuts always works loose so when assembling I just readjust each time, only ...

Matt you said this:
> count how many threads you have showing past the nut, you MUST get the cable back to the same position

Why is this so important? The nut on my cable has come loose so it has moved. How do I determine the correct length to fix this now?

Thanks,
Eric

What kind of rivets should I use on the mast hook? Are 18-8 Stainless rivets OK or should I use 316 stainless?

BTW I should have said that we went sailing over the 4th of July and had a great time. The winds were great and the water was warm. I took lots of fellow fleet members for rides and showed them what it is like to fly a hull 4+ ft in the air! They had a blast. I love this boat! -Eric SC20 #113

SC20 roller furler swivel

I received the new furler swivel and I can already tell it will be a huge improvement over the old one. The problem is that the sheave for the jib halyard and the 2 side plates don't fit in the opening (it is too narrow and the fork is too short to hold the sheave). I am assuming the newer boats hav...

Well I got the new sheaves installed with a 3/16" halyard and it did make an improvement, but it is still pretty tough. Now I am wondering if it is because of the hook at the head of the mast. I recall having it installed years ago so I know it isn't original. It is exactly centered with the sa...
