Re: Beach Cat Spinnakers
So if we are looking for larger, flatter jib type of sail why not put a large roller furling jib on the end of a spinnaker pole? This solution would make management of the sail much easier as well as provide the larger surface area required of a down wind sail. Just a thought....

Re: SC17 solo mast stepping
If I need to raise the mast on my own I use the ginpole that AI purchased from Aquarius along with a block attached to the forestay and a locking jib block hooked to the trailer. It is a little scary, but works every time. There is a video on the website showing a single handed raising of the mast o...

Re: Beach Cat Spinnakers
Is there a spin setup from say a Nacra or Hobie that I could rig on my 17? Some downwind help would be good.

Re: raising the main is a bitch on this SC15
Matt is right as usual. I have had 3 SC17's in the short time I have been sailing cats. My current boat has the rope halyard and the hook arrangement at the top of the mast. It works very nicely. I use McLube Sailcoat dry lube spray on the slot and luff so the sail just glides right up. The thin rop...

Re: Self tacking jib
I lust after a self tacking job and a spin . I think they both require a pole, so I'm not sure how to rig one. This was supposed to be a winter project, but ....
I don't have a problem pointing with the roller furled Jib if I keep the weight forward.

Re: SC15 out of the weeds back on the water
Where are the jib blocks on a self tacking jib? Mounted on the track on the front of the beam? I'm sick of sitting on jib blocks.

Re: Adding a spin to a SC 17
Thanks for the reminder Matt. I appreciate your input and support. This project is interesting to me on a whole lot of levels. I don't want to break the boat in the process. I'm thinking about adding a spin of around 250 sq feet, 40 sq ft smaller than on the ARC 17 as a safety factor. Most of the ca...

Just so we are all on the same page this is how my boat is currently equipped. Re: Jib furler line cleat question
I used screws with nyloc nuts. I put the nuts on a breaker bar taped to a stick, then used a screw gun with a clutch to tighten then down. Two person operation, but not a difficult job.

Re: Jib furler line cleat question
I use a Harken Micro Cam-Matic II Cam Cleat with a top plastic fairlead and front stainless wire fairlead. It is mounted about 1.5 feet from the mast on the starboard side with appropriately sized screws and nyloc nuts. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_11151_10001_346851_-...

Re: attaching a mast step SC15
Wow, interesting question. Hang on, I'll go check....I'm back. The step appears to be held on by stainless sheet metal screws with large diameter heads on the two beams I just checked. These beams are probably 30 years old and come from a 15 and a 17. There is no evidence of a bedding compound. That...

Re: Releasing the main sail and rotation
Mac,
Make sure the knot on the halyard ring is on the same side as the point on the mast hook. Matt gave me this no fail tip a couple of years ago. It works like a charm.
