Re: Downhaul Rigging

Hi Robert, All of the ARC-22's shipped with the standard 6:1 downhaul system & three grommets in the mainsail as illustrated in the link Ghamby shared. The way that you string it is by starting at the exit block / cleat on the starboard side, go up to the middle grommet in the mainsail. Next, yo...

Re: New SC17 owner

Hello Genofleet119, You are correct that there were two different forestay assemblies for the SC17. The standard forestay consisted of a pigtail at the top, a turning block for the jib halyard, the forestay, a chainplate, the wire jib halyard and the rope segment of the jib halyard. The roller furli...

Kevin,
Yes, roll from the top down. Typically folding at the second batten thou. Usually the second batten in the main as well.

Re: SuperCat 17 Hulls Leaking

Drain plug leaks: First off it doesn't look like the housing is sealed to the hull. I would remove the drain plug housing, remove any old caulk and clean it up so you have a nice clean surface. I would then put a nice bead of 5200 around the back of the housing and in the screw holes, insert the hou...

Re: Rolling and storing a sail.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree..... All of the local guys we sail with roll them from the top-down, whether it's a 15, 17, 19, 22, Nacra 5.2, etc.... Been a very long time since I have seen someone roll them from the bottom up. Usually, if we see a sail rolled from the bottom up is becaus...

Re: Rolling and storing a sail.

Yes, but it's a 10x easier to hoist it when it's unrolled already so actually doesn't make much difference. Longevity wise we have found the sails rolled from the top are typically in better condition for much longer then if rolled from the bottom up.

Re: Batten knots

Kevin,
I usually tighten the main battens by pushing with my thumb until the batten (tubular) has a slight bend to it. Its tight enough to take the wrinkles out but not excessive.

The same thing for the gaff batten, however, if it isn't long enough that will make it more difficult :D

Re: Batten knots

Hi Kevin, Here are the steps for tying the battens into the sail. We just use a square knot (Steps 5 & 6) Step #1 Position batten.jpg Step #2 Instert batten.jpg Step #3 thread tie, up thru stirrup & down thru grommet.jpg Step #4 Start square knot.jpg Step #5 tension batten with thumbs.jp...

Re: Rolling and storing a sail.

Hi Kevin, It is our opinion that sails should be rolled from the top down. We typically fold the top of the sail down at the 2nd full batten and then start rolling from there. That typically keeps the top from being rolled too tightly and getting a fold/curl in the square top. There are several reas...

Re: Compression dings in hulls

I suspect it is probably just cosmetic. If it is rectangular and vertical I am guessing it is actually a "silhouette" of the bulkhead caused by the foam shrinking as it cured.

Re: What size cat trax needed for a SC17

I would agree that a cat trax with a 7' center line on the cradles should work fine. If your interested we sell cat trax using the Florida Sail Craft wheels and our own cradle and axle design for the SuperCat, ARC and RC catamarans. If your interested please give Tom a call at 651-462-SAIL.

Re: New gripe sheet for an old 19

Jonathan,
One additional thought on rotating the mast when lowering the mainsail. Since you have spreaders on the mast you can always push on the diamond wire to rotate the mast. It hit me today when I was lowering the main :D

Re: Recent purchase SC17, Jib sheet issues, help!

Doug, If the foot of the jib is "luffing" then it sounds to me like the sheet angle is incorrect and there is probably too much leech tension and insufficient foot tension which is causing the luffing issue. Can you post a few pictures of your jib rigged on your boat. Over the years there ...
