Re: 19 for sale in my area

Bruiser wrote: A power boater will drop thousands on gas every year. We should look at sails the same way. Budget thousands a year for sails and sails actually become pretty cheap.

Your metaphor is absurd. Sails=engine on a sail boat not the fuel, wind=fuel on a sailboat and that is free.

Re: 19 for sale in my area

Ron, F.W.I.W. Sails on a cat = the engine in a car. The question is what is the value of a used car w/o the engine or at best a broken one? I always look at the sails first and the hulls last. The quality of the sails drives the gross price not the shine on the hulls. My old beater 19 will blow the ...

Re: Around The Isle Of Texel Race 1980 by Bill Roberts

The biggest factors in setting records in distance races are the boat design of course and the wind and sea conditions. This short course record or setting a record on a non race day leaves me kinda cold. Bill, I agree. In most any sport 'absolute record attempts' are always set up in conditions th...

Re: Around The Isle Of Texel Race 1980 by Bill Roberts

I have been doing some reading on the 'Round Texel' an interesting factoid is that there are two routes around the island. The shortest route is now closed to sailing as a portion of the route has been declared a protected area. I have not been able to find the actual 'shortest possible distance' of...

Re: Beach Cat Spinnakers

So we are left with the only other possible solution, "make the spinnaker more narrow". Why doe this work on beach cats and not work on keel boats? is the answer the apparent wind? catamarans these days don't seem to have a downwind point of sail anymore, they are moving so fast that the ...

Lewisetta Marina, Lewisetta VA, their ramp fee is $5.00. The place is straight out of the early 70's but the owners are super nice people. We love their attitude and nobody there wears a yachting hat or shoes!

Epic trip across the Chesapeake Bay, 6/1/13

Last Tuesday night, I rang up the posse, the planets were aligning for a stellar trip across the Chesapeake Bay on the coming Saturday. Winds out of the S-SW, 10-15 kts, sunny with zero percent chance of thunderstorms, 80 degree air temp and 63 water. This is a trip that requires perfect conditions,...

Latest sail on the modified SC20.

After a series of outings and some tweaks on the mast position I am getting the SC20 dialed in. The boat simply amazes me, extremely well behaved and a joy to helm. The pic is a bit noisy, but understandable as it was taken from the shoreline nearly a mile and a half away. http://i30.photobucket.com...

Modified Supercat 20

I made a trailer-sailor out of a Supercat 20 by reducing the beam. On March 10, 2013 we got our first cruise of the season on the modded boat. I am totally happy with the results.

Re: supercat 17 traveler pics please

If you have the coin, get rid of the wire traveler asap. I kept the wire traveler on my Supercat 19 and thought it was okay until I upgraded to the Harken. The difference was mind blowing. The wire traveler is near worthless in 20/20 hindsight.

Re: Adding a spin to a SC 17

The newer front beams have a bolt rope track integrated into the extrusion for the tramp. I'm guessing this is what 'whalerman' is referring to.
