Re: Newb with SC19

Havlii is somewhat correct in that the SC19 is stretch SC17... That is not exactly true, but the SC17 & 19 are much closer in hull design then the SC20.... Havlii is also correct that the SC18 is a cut down SC19 that is 12' wide, but there are several significant differences that allowed us to m...

Re: folding 22, 27

You wont find too many people trailing a 12' wide boat on a tilt trailer. At 12' wide you will be over the DOT legal height when you get the boat tilted high enough so your under the DOT legal width of 8' 6"...... If you don't have any bridges to deal with you might be able to pull it off, alth...

Re: Race to Alaska

Andy, We had nothing to do with their acquisition and modifications of the boat. They picked the boat up someplace out East and hauled it to the West coast to do all of the mods. Tom has had a few conversations with them answering questions about how the boat was originally rigged, but all of the mo...

Re: Refurbishing SC20

I should clarify one thing.

Always vacuum as necessary and then wipe clean after sanding.

Re: Server Migration

That was very painful.... Numerous restores of both the database and the files, but it appears to all be backup and running with nothing lost as far as I can tell. I have a few cosmetic things to take care of over the next few days, but that should not cause any major issues. Please let me know if y...

Server Migration

I just want to give everyone a heads up that were in the process of migrating to a new server. I am always optimistic these types of things will go off without a hitch and will go unnoticed by the majority, however I am also realistic and know that something will go haywire. Regardless I am hoping t...

Re: Yet another weather helm problem....

Just a quick comment on shimming the upper gudgeon. While it does change the angle of the rudder, it does not have the same effect as redrilling the rudder and thus may not cure your weather helm issues.

Re: Forestay Attachment Point

Any downside to opening both levers to pin forestay? That way i could have same amount of tension going to each trap wire? Oh yes, lastly, any preference as far as inserting pin for forestay? head of pin facing forward or aft or just personal preference Jay, Don't open both levers at the same time. ...

Re: Forestay Attachment Point

The Split ring should be under little to no load if the pin is installed correctly. The concern with split rings is that they can get snagged on lines and can come undone that way, the solution to this is to tape the ring with a high-quality self-adhering rigging tape that does not leave adhesive be...

Re: compression ding repair

GH, What you describe is different than what I thought I was looking at. I still think you can get away with just filling with a good quality fairing compound, however if the crack is into the glass than that needs to be repaired with a patch. I cannot endorse the heat / Delamination / fill method d...

Re: compression ding repair

Hard to tell from the photo, but are you referring to the two vertical marks? If they are centered under the cross beam I doubt they are a dent. More likely they are due to shrinkage of the bulkheads during manufacturing. Purely cosmetic and not necessary to do anything more then fill (glass not nec...

Re: Breaking a mast

Whalerman, I am going to add a bit onto what Bruiser wrote. I believe you have an SC-17 correct? There are no diamond wires on the SC17 mast so you need to be cautious about how high above the main hounds you put the spinnaker hounds. Backstays or support wires that Bruiser talked about really are n...

Re: Installing tramp on SC20??

Dan, I would follow your approach of positioning the rear slot and then snugging the front and rear up enough to take the slack out. Do all your "Final" tightening on the sides. You should be able to tighten the mesh tramp "Drum" tight, however you won't be able to telescope the ...
