Re: How would you build an 8 foot wide SC22??
Dan, If you have the ARC22 hulls, the cross beams are relatively easy. Tom sells an internal box beam stiffener that will make the boat 'strikerless' ala the SC19 and the ARC21. I took the wire striker and post off my 20 and went this route since the loads are reduced on the narrower beam boat. The ...

Re: How would you build an 8 foot wide SC22??
Dan, I cut down my 20 to achieve trailer-'ability'. The result is simply a stunning boat, she's a breeze to rig and launch, fast and fun to sail. I settled on 9 feet (a little over road legal) but not noticeable. Ten feet is tough to trailer, it gets frighteningly close to mailboxes, sign posts, etc...

Re: Elliptical top and the AC72
Can you explain why the boat would go faster with the jib furled? Kevin Kevin, At certain wind strengths a jib WITHOUT BATTENS creates more drag than lift upwind. Here is a quote from Bill's original post in 2003. Hard as this is to believe, the difference is unreal, I could point like crazy and ha...

Re: Elliptical top and the AC72
Gone sailin' Bill, Sunday was awesome, 17-20 kts and big waves on the Potomac and Chessy Bay. We had a blast, my regular crew and best mate, sailed with the dolphins and generally ripped up the river. My weapon of choice is my SC20, tho I cut it down. Now don't go all ballistic on me, I'm a 'trailer...

Re: pics
If you want the jpeg 'embedded' in the message then you must find a place to 'host' the picture. There are lots of free hosting sites that will set up a holding tank for your photos. Try photobucket, google drive, or any of the free sites that deal with photography. The image in this post is not hos...

Re: Elliptical top and the AC72
What's up with the Nacra F20c? Seems like they pi**ed away a ton of money on R and D to come up with a boat that is only rated one tenth of one percent faster than a Tornado, 57.9 against 58 for the Tornado. (That's the only number I could find on the F20c.) So what in the world is up with that? The...

Square top and self tacking jib?
Bill, If a factory stock Supercat is upgraded with a Sq top main and a self tacking jib, what, in your opinion, is the % increase in speed or in another manner of speaking the reduction of the PN. second question, is this the best 'bang for the buck' that you can spend on one of the older boats? Reg...

Elliptical top and the AC72
I am imagining things? or does the bow of the AC72 closely resemble the Supercat design. Aside from the reverse bow it sure looks like a Supercat to me! Oh how I wish we could see the section drawings and overlay the two. Bill, please chime in here, what are the pros and cons of the reverse bow. Andy

Re: Supercat ARC RC Target Races
Great write up! Randy going 'over early' in a 100 mile race seems like a pretty strange mistake. With 100 miles out ahead of you, one would think that a few seconds at the start would be insignificant. I guess the other possibility is equally as painful, he could have lost (on corrected time) by a f...

Mac, that would be awesome.......... you are hereby nominated as the President, S. Carolina Chapter of the RnBCYC. We only have one club rule, and that is: there are no dues, meetings, bylaws or rules. (see rule one)

Re: Replacing SS Rudder pins
Bill, Can we coax you to come sail the 'Chesapeake Bay' and do a tuning/sailing session? We have at least 10 Supercats in the non-club. Five 15's, three 19's, two 20's, one 18 square (rare and the owner hardly ever sails it). We could throw some money in the hat for expenses and pay. Best regards, A...

Bill, does the square top sail also help to twist off the top of the sail in a strong gust?

How about telling us this story? I would like to hear more about the race and the conditions. I am sure others on this board would as well.Bruiser wrote: (by the way we backed into winning this one, but that is another long story)

Re: 19 for sale in my area
A power boater will drop thousands on gas every year. We should look at sails the same way. Budget thousands a year for sails and sails actually become pretty cheap. Your metaphor is absurd. Sails=engine on a sail boat not the fuel, wind=fuel on a sailboat and that is free. Oh good grief! Then neve...
