Don't actually have the boat yet - having a rough time getting it out of New York and on the road west. Maybe as far as Madison next week, but I'm beginning to resign myself to waiting for spring. Sure, that sounds good. You can't actually remove the caps from the boat without untying the shock cord, but you're not going to lose them either.

Hmmm... Seems to me that anything faster/easier is going to either stick out too much or be a little elaborate. Under "elaborate", spring-loaded (from inside the cap) pins that protrude into/through holes in the beam tube. Windsurfers use them a lot for connecting to boom and mast sections.

We don't know each other well enough for that.
