Re: Removing cross beam bolts.

No, I haven't launched at LOW, while Lake of the Woods is close by, my taste runs to larger bodies of water and bigger wind. Most of my sailing is on the Chesapeake Bay, Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers down the Northern Neck. You'll find that the SuperCats cover a lot of ground quickly and need room...

Re: Removing cross beam bolts.

You will likely snap a 1/4 inch ratchet extension. I had to oversize the hole on top of the beam to fit a 1/2 inch ratchet extension and use a long handled ratchet to get three of the inner bolts out, the fourth bolt was totally seized and snapped off. I then had to drill the remaining bolt close to...

Re: Releasing the main sail and rotation

Is the clew of the sail released from the boom?
Try opening both shroud extenders.
Are you dead head to wind?
ANY pressure at all in the main sail makes it hard to rotate and unhook. or worse still the main will fill and flip towards the hook holding the ring fast on the hook.

Re: flying solo on the SC19

Catgirl11,

Here's some video from Day Three at Kerr Lake. Wind speed can be noted on the sound track. We were three up, sister, brother-in-law and me driving.

Re: New Supercat 17 purchase

Just a guess or theory but here's 2 cents worth, the 17 and the 19 use the same mast, (28' 9") the 19 has diamond wires to keep the mast in column and the 17 doesn't. Your previous owner may have been witness to some nasty mast bend. Mast bend to a degree much greater than he was comfortable wi...

too much of a good thing?

Question on the Supercat 19. I can't find a benefit to running with the boards all the way down, it seems that the added drag actually slows the boat and reduces the pointing angle when going upwind. Am I imagining things here? I have tried this in varying wind and wave conditions with the same resu...

Re: 'overwhelming the hulls'

Thanks Matt, I'm closer to getting it. I thought righting moment was a good thing. At what point on a catamaran does it become a 'bad thing?' During our test run, we were three up, only one trapped out. I was running her bow down to the lines and often past them. Our waves are notoriously short peri...

'overwhelming the hulls'

Matt, Finally got my SC 19 on the water. (4 sailings to date) I have been studying up on this board, reading and applying all the tips and tricks. Can you describe what you mean by the phrase 'overwhelming the hulls?' I typically sail 2 up, 310 total crew weight. We did sail her three up for the 'tr...

Thanks and a hat tip.

I want to thank Tom and Matt Haberman for this forum and their continued support of the SuperCat lineup of boats. I recently discovered that answers to many of my questions could be found in the archives of this forum, yet Tom patiently answered these questions, in private emails and phone calls, fo...
