Re: Hull repair advice SC 15

That split looks fairly long, like a foot or so. I would flip the boat over or better yet remove the hull, then filip it over. Let gravity do its thing for a few days to get the water out. the sun will help as well, and you could put a small fan on it to keep air circulating. drill some holes throug...

Adding a spin to a SC 17

Anyone out there added a spin to an older 17? It does not look like an insurmountable job as I have a front beam with a track in it and the beam is in really good shape with the double sleeve in the middle of the tube. I was thinking it might be necessary to put a piece of aluminium angle on the ins...

Re: Batten Length SC 17

Thanks,

I guess the battens that stick out 6 inches are probably from a different boat. As I have only owned 17's and now this 15 I wonder where they came from?

Batten Length SC 17

I'm getting the 17 ready to sail using some tubular battens that came out of a 17 and a 15 as I was missing a few from the 17 set. How far should the battens stick out of the pocket? I have enough of them to make a set for the 17, but some of them have broken ends the tip is gone, or the fastening e...

Using a jib cover

I bought a jib cover for my 17 over the winter, but I'm not sure how to use it. The mast hound has two holes in it about 1.5 inches apart. I assume I can put a halyard for the cover attached to a small block. But then what? Is the halyard a continuous loop?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Great sail, but bad sail shape :(

I would think that the aluminum tubing would defeat the safety aspect of a boom-less rig. I regularly sail my 17 with children, people who are older or simply don't move too well. I like the SC tubular batten in the bottom pocket for that reason.

Navy Seals - the movie

In the first 5 minutes or so of this movie there is a picture of what looks like a SC 17 on a beach. The waterline is too high up on the hull and it appears to have a boom. Could this be an SC 20 or is it some other type of cat?

Avibank Pin

So the stainless wire securing the pins has deteriorated over the past 30 years to the point where it has actually broken on one of them. 30 years seems like a good long service life, I'm not complaining, but is the stainless wire what is now being used to attach the pins to the shroud extenders on ...

Re: SC17 ruddercasting problems.

There are 5 holes in the clew of my sail where I can attach the top block of the mainsheet. This seems to have a profound effect on the amount of weatherhelm as well as the performance of the boat.

Re: SC17 ruddercasting problems.

The new rudder pins that are available from Aquarius are made of a hard plastic so they will not damage the castings. I would take the castings to a machine shop to have a an aluminum plug installed in the pintle pin holes. then have them redrilled to the correct size. Then set the mast rake at the ...

Supertimes?

While reading the Supercat 17 owners manual I came across mention of a newsletter called "Supertimes" and also Supercat Sailing Seminars. I guess the newsletter has been replaced by the Webpage, but it would be neat if the sailing tips section of the news letters could be posted to the for...

Re: Bolt rope front beam on an older SC 17

It took 20 minutes to drill out the rivets, then an hour to put in the 22 screws and nylock nuts. I used 1/2 and 3/4 inch stainless steel truss head screws. The new Aquarius Sail tramp looks great. I will be sailing on it in a couple of hours. All in all this was a pleasant project.

Re: Bolt rope front beam on an older SC 17

How would one properly index the holes in an aluminum bar? Clamp it in place I guess, mark the location of the holes with a sharpie, then send the bar out to be drilled and tapped? This would be complicated by the sleeve that occupies the center third of the main beam on a 17...... The nuts sound li...
