Re: Sloppy tiller crossbar connection
Yes, I know this is an old thread. I am resurrecting this topic. I have expended time and material to thicken up the head of my starboard rudder. I added six layers of glass and resin to each side. Prodigious sanding was involved. I also sanded and polished the inside of the casting. This eliminated...

Rudder pivot bolt
I just had to worry out that 5/16 pivot bolt in my rudder casting. Not wringing it off was a near run thing. Is there a new and improved hardware spec. for this part? If not what is the preferred anti seize compound?

Re: compression ding repair
That's quite a pressure ding Andy. I don't think I need to get that med-evil on my cat. As long as I haven't lost any structural strength due to the compression of the foam core, fairing compound might be the way to go. Until it warms up here, this is a theoretical discussion. Matt, thanks for the a...

Re: compression ding repair
Matt, thanks for the reply. It's hard to get a decent photo of this. It tends to white out. The dents are aft of where the forward crossbeam is. They are right where the side guide roller was. I got rid of the rollers and installed cradles as soon as I could after buying the boat. The temperature ha...

Re: compression ding repair
Thanks, back on topic, here's a pic. These dings were caused by one of the guide rollers the previous owner had. Makes a great case for cradles.

Re: compression ding repair
This is the technical forum. The question was about hull repair. Please take your regatta discussion to the General forum. This is a classic example of thread hijacking.

Re: compression ding repair
Andy,
Thanks for the reply. There's no breach of the skin. I'm not a big fan of putty except for the most minor of cosmetic blemishes. I'll probably sand the area down some and laminate cloth in with white resin, fair it out and gel-cote it. GH

Re: Checking for mast leaks
I did not find any plugs in my mast when I opened it up. I re-bedded the mast head w/ 3M 5200. After having difficulty righting a capsize, I re-bedded the mast hound, also w/ 5200. When I pulled the base I tilted the mast head down and filled it with water. No water leaked from the head or hound. I ...

All the mods to the Oracle boat were under the supervision of the Measurement Committee. NZ would have to prove illegal modifications. I hope Oracle learned their lesson already. When hasn't the Cup been underwritten by "sugar daddies"? Sir Ben and all the rest are professional free agents...
