Re: Another Righting Thread!

Bill you misconstrued my oracle reference. I was hoping you would enlighten us as to the proper drogue setup.

Re: Another Righting Thread!

This is an interesting thread. I hope the Oracle will chime back in and answer the questions of drogue size, type, length of line, type of line (floating or not), and point of attachment. I think the down hull bridal tang is probably the attachment point. I'd rather not stress that tang in the wrong...

Re: America's Cup

That was an awesome race. A clean start and just plain sailing skill. I would love to know what Oracle Team USA did to their boat to achieve the boat speeds they accomplished. Their change in after guard was critical. They had one pair of eyes looking aft and one pair looking forward. That let Spith...

Re: New Zealand AC72, What I Saw Today

Yes Bill, that is the picture from the back jacket cover of "Icarus, the Boat that Flies" by James Grogono. I found the book back in the '90s in Hamilton, Bermuda on a booksellers remainder table. The discussion about the AC 72s and foils in general here prompted me to dig the book out of ...

Re: America's Cup

Help me out here. Team USA was penalized for adding weight to and lengthening the kingposts on an AC 45. What were they hoping to accomplish? I cannot find a proper technical discussion on the web.

How about this for a foil kit? This is on a Tornado late'70s-early 80s.

Re: America's Cup

They really are doing a great job with the camera work on the TV coverage. The commentary is better than I expected. I was worried that NBC would do to the Cup what they did to the Olympics.

America's Cup

Well, we're four races in and I'm enjoying the hell out of it! The tactics are still there, the maneuvers are still there and the speed is incredible. I think Spithill is done playing catch up but Barker isn't going to let up. I'm looking forward to a tight match. It will be a treat after watching N...

Re: Hobie 16

Bill,
Your description is about what I imagined a reefing system would look like on a SC. Seems doable, still going to be involved.

It's gonna be a bitch with a masthead halyard ring and a loose footed main.

Re: Installing foot straps?

Dan, Could you fabricate a metal strap that went from the top outboard bolt on the gudgeon to the rear crossbar? That would give you two hard points without breaching the hull. Make it thick enough to get fasteners into for the straps. Bed it down to the hull with 5200 and apply non-skid to the oute...

Re: New Zealand AC72, What I Saw Today

Call Tom, see If he has a stock foil rig ready to ship. I am in awe of those AC 72s. Can you imagine riding on one of those things? The only boring part to me is having to watch the race on a screen. The racing tactics are still there. There just getting executed at 30kts. We will get the benefits o...

Re: SC15 with self tacking jib - setup pics!

Dan, Nice pics. I dig the down haul.I never liked the stock one. The block between the jam cleats looks like an exit block for the main halyard. How does all that gear at the foot of the mast affect stepping and un- stepping the mast? What size bolt did you use to attach the tiller yolks? Where did ...
