Re: Layup Schedule
Me thinks that the lay-up sked would be classified intel......... that cuts right to the heart of the engineering involved in designing the boat. Given the complexity of the loading I am quite sure that the layup schedule is equally as complex. For instance, you might have 6 layers on the keel (with...

Re: The square top mainsail
Here's my question: If a tall pin top sail is cut down and footage added to the uppermost portion of the leech (and the total sail area remains the same) are we essentially making the sail more effective by moving the square footage to a new location? and when doing so can the mast now be shorter an...

What one book?
I am looking for a recommendation on a good book. I already have a book titled, 'The Symmetry of Sailing.' What I am looking for is another read on the physics of sailing, any suggestions?
Thanks.
Thanks.

THe fat lady sings a different tune..............
Will ENTZ fill a legal protest? The Oracle Stability Assist Software was quite possibly why the boat suddenly found a bunch of speed. This fits with what Bill said previously, 'that the boats have outpaced the sailors ability to sail them!' ENTZ may challenge the legality of this since in the 'spiri...

Re: How NOT to finish a race
I don't applaud at anyone's misfortune but it may be possible that the F18 boys were cheering because they felt your handicap was a bit soft. Seems 3% is a small price to pay for a 50% weight reduction. Thanks for posting the story, if anyone knew Robert's pain, certainly you did, it gives more pers...

Re: How NOT to finish a race
Second and third question:
How did you get the SC15 with self tacker rated? Sailed, sloop rigged, I can only find it rated 2up, not 1up.
And what is your rating?

Dan, I am not familiar with 'the curse' at this race. Can you illuminate? How many have gone over?

Re: America's Cup
Got a chance to watch the replay of Race 4, Oracle won the start and held the lead throughout. Proving that they can stay out front is a big boost to the confidence of the Oracle boat. Spithill now knows he has enough raw speed to hang onto a lead, the starts should get interesting. If Oracle can r...

Re: Scaled down for the masses?
I am not sure we 'did Not want' wing powered cats, rather I suspect the masses simply were never 'Educated' as to the value of their function. I have been a scuba instructor since '86, and traveled the world as a professional u/w photographer (magazines, textbooks, etc). Beginning in the mid-90's I...
