Spin vs Jib

Post by whalerman »

For the last two years I have seen several cats rigged with main and spin, but no jib. These spins seem to be on the small side, yet the boat move along quite nicely. These spins are used on most points of sail as well. What's the deal?

smaller spins are designed to allow you to get lift in the bows downwind but also reach in light to moderate conditions.. Larger spins are only useful on downwind angles as they get over powered as you head up.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the reply. Do you have a spin? Is it from Aquarius or a home brew?

I have had a few spin rigged cats.... On the ARC 21 I had two spins, one larger for downwind and one Tornado reaching spin..
The spin for the SC15 has no identifying marks on it so I can't tell you.... It came with the cat and the pole was designed and installed by the factory...
