RC30 RACING IN AND AROUND BARBADOS

Post by Bill Roberts »

News From Barbados:
Shortly after the Race Around Barbados, Jan 2004, Bizzy Williams, owner of RC30 Tiami Silver Bullett, sold the boat to Robert Foley. Robert, a monohull sailor from Barbados, was very impressed with the speed of the RC 30 demonstrated in the Around Barbados Race which the RC30 won boat for boat and on corrected time. Immediately after purchasing the RC30 Mr. Foley and his crew began practicing and learned how to make the boat go fast in a short period of time.
After about six weeks of serious practice, including a turnover, Robert decided to take the boat 100 miles south to a race around the island of Granada.
Soon after Robert arrived in Granada, many of the local sailors began telling him that he should not race. "The seas are too rough", they said.
"Sometimes they get up to 15 feet high on the NE side", they told him. Well, Robert didn't let a few wild rhumors stop him from sailing in the race. The RC30 was the smallest boat in the race. Robert ran the race and won the race by a wide margin, hours. At the trophy presentation he was accused of running an airplane to a sailboat race.
Since this race I have received three telephone calls from Barbados asking about RC30s; "are there any aviable and how much do they cost"?

PS Just last weekend Robert won the Mt Gay Rum Regatta, a bouy race, sailed on the west side, the flat water side, of Barbados.
Mr. Foley is a happy RC30 owner. This particular boat is RC30 number one built in 1992 and it is still running strong and has had no repairs, none required. Tom Haberman does a super job.
