SC17 Beam removal

Post by Tinkersailor »

Hello again.

I was wanting to take the beam off for some maintenence and paint under the beam... I started to loosen the bolts but as they were very hard to turn I chickened out (afraid of gauling the threads) and tightend them back up.

How long are the bolts? What should I do to tease them out?

From what I remember there is maybe inch and a half of threads.

I broke one bolt taking mine out. I used a stud welder (used in autobody work) to heat it up and it broke the corrosion. Obviously don't heat it up too much. There was a small amount sticking up and I used some vise grips to remove it.

Bolt Removal

If you can loosen the bolts just a bit put some Liquid Wrench penetrating oil on the threads then let it sit for a day or two. You should be able to tighten the bolts back up slightly, then work them out a bit more and put on more penetrating oil. Be patient, it may take a couple of days for you to work them out, but the end result will be much easier to deal with than broken bolts.
