What determined the od/wall thicknes of the bottom batten. I would have sworn it would bend but never did...

I am assuming you must have sailed recently

The bottom batten was designed to take the loads placed on it by the mainsheet, mast and sail while still keeping weight to a minimum. We don't hear about too many that "bend" while sailing, but if your crew suddenly finds him/herself falling onto the batten then it will probably bend. Although the crew was the one who fell into the sail, they can usually still blame the bending of the batten on the skipper because it is usually their fault for putting the crew in that position anyway

So, what is the OD of the bottom batten?

This excerpt was taken from the class rules for the 22, but the diameter is the same for both boats.

The only acceptable material for this batten is Tubular Aluminum with the dimensions as follows: 1) Outside Diameter = 1.25" +/- 0", Maximum Overall Length = 9' 8"
