SC17 class specifications

Post by neptunebeach »

I've recently acquired an older Boston Whaler built SC17. I intend to race so want to maintain class-legal status. Is there a class specification listing availble to be sure I stay within specs? Are the ARC17 and the SC17 now considered the same class? I'd like to convert to unirig and sail solo, but I'm not sure of what the specs would be. Any linformation would be most appreciated. Any SC17 owners out there in NE Florida/ SE Georgia?

I am assuming that you are going to be doing some handicap racing, there are several adjustments that you can use if you are going to be sailing uni-rig when sailing in a handicap fleet.
OPEN CLASS RULES
For any race that has a handicap scoring system such as
the North American Multihull Sailing Association Portsmouth
Handicap or classes described by other designations than the
SUPERCAT Race Association International, 15 One Person, 15,
17, 19, 20 and 20-Tall class rules, the skipper may elect to
sail with the boat qualifying under the Open Class Rules.
In the above situation the following adjustments are
permitted:
1.Increase or decrease the number of persons on board.
2.Addition or deletion of a foresail.
3.Addition or deletion of a trapeze.
4. Substitution of mainsail to square top design
Any foresail or trapeze added must be S.R.A.I. type approved
to be legal.

I hope this information helps

Thanks for the information Matt. That gives me a good start.

Is a full copy of the SuperCat 17 class rules (1/85) available somewhere, maybe online?
I see that US Sailing Portsmouth Committee also refers to the SuperCat 17 XL. Is that a modification to the standard setup?

Rick,

I am not sure about the SC17XL.
The only place I found it mentioned was in the Multihull Class weights table and I think they might have been refering to the ARC17, but I am not totally sure.
