Minimum class weight for the SC17 is 280 lbs.

Class weights are listed on the US Sailing web site at http://www.ussailing.org/portsmouth/mhweights01.asp

thanks matt....

would never had figured that that page was avalable....
but when it states that "supercat class rules state that in open class racing the number of persons on board may be increased or decreased" if my min weight isn't reached should i take the underweight penalty? i weight in at 210lbs i suppose i should take the 0.974 hit... according to the rules.... i'm not quite sure...... but i do appreciate all the help you give......

The statement about number of people on board being increased/decreased is because some boats/manufacturer require a minimum or maximum crew for the boat to be raced, period. That was added to the SC class rules so someone wasn't stoped from racing because they didn't have two people on the boat.
Locally we have a guy with an 17 that sails by himself on a regular basis. We give the underweight hit and also bump him back up if he doesn't have the jib on the boat. Looking at the results it seems relativly fair in that he seems to remain competive and place consistantly in the fleet.

Good Luck.
